About 10,000 government workers will be sent home in a public sector rationalisation plan that is expected to result in as much as J$50 billion (US$590.6 million) in savings.
The civil servants will be sent home over the next five years.
Prime Minister Bruce Golding announced in his Budget presentation in Parliament yesterday that the 118,163 people on government’s payroll would be reduced to between 108,000 and 109,000 over that period.

May God help the Caribbean and stop Europeans from taking the best jobs.
I hope our govt officials are paying keen attention to this one. We need to have tighter controls so that only the brightest and the best of those workers will be allowed into this Territory. Officials please monitor this situation closely.
@ Peter Crumble: Jamaican’s wont come here unless the BVI allow us in. We go through the same rigorous proceedures as everyone else. Hence, its not as if there is a banana boat from ja to the bvi giving free passage, work and boarding in the BVI. Jamaicans as everyone else goes whereever there are jobs available to improve their current life situation.
@876, When BVI people migrate you dont hear about them and their bad behaviour. They also return home after some time. They dont spend their entire stay bringing down the country who feedin them badmouthing and disrespecting the culture and way of life of the host country
Mr. Golding, you are only talking about the savings but what about the cost. You are sending home these people to cause increase in crime and poverty in the country. You are sending home these people to &^%* to other countries. Mr. Golding you just full of %$#&; you elected by the people of Jamaica to make things better by creating jobs and putting people to work not eliminate jobs and destroying people. When thinking about cost cutting in Government; the first place to start is you and the other Ministers Big Fat Salary and allowances . That is one of the reason why I leave that country and I aint going back because the government are blood suckers and Politics has become a CRIME
so they willing to put 10 THOUSAND people out of work to make a profit(savings)?
i only hope none ah them dont come here….i’ll monitor closely
