Leaders from across the Virgin Islands in the public and private sectors had a unique experience on Thursday, October 20th 2011 to access the knowledge and experience of eleven internationally-acclaimed speakers by attending the 2011 Chick-fil-A Leadercast held at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College.

The event was coordinated by Ballast & Capel Ltd. and Smith & Associates and sponsored by gold sponsors – Road Town Wholesale and VI Human Resources Association, and silver sponsors – BCQS, Digicel, HLSCC, Martin Kenney and Sol.
The Chick-fil-A Leadercast was a one-day leadership conference that featured recorded presentations by international speakers and local speakers under the theme Voices of Change.

It was the first of its kind here in the Virgin Islands. World-known speakers included leadership expert – John Maxwell, Chairman and CEO of Coca Cola – Muhtar Kent, tel
evision commentator – Suzy Welch along with 8 other leaders in marketing, education, community service and innovation. The featured local speakers were Dr. Karl Dawson, President of HLSCC, Sarah Penney a founding member of Hands on Volunteer, and Chaunci Cline, Regional Organisational Manager of Delta Petroleum. The MC’s were Tamara Archibald-Gill and David Archer.
Over 100 persons attended the event from various companies and the public service. Some responses from an anonymous survey completed after were “It was an overall knowledge-filled, exciting and entrancing event. From the personnel (hosts, speakers etc.) to the atmosphere generated correct ambiance for positive interaction.”

Another participant remarked, “There were a lot of great ideas and direction in this conference. I do feel I will be able to utilize what I learned in my daily life both professional and personal.” A third comment received was, “I wish I knew more about it sooner; so many of my friends I think would have benefitted. I will tell them about the next event for sure!”
The hosts, Judy Haycraft of Ballast & Capel and Shaina Smith of Smith & Associates, were excited to see the high-attendance and excellent feedback received.
“Persons have remarked that there is a need for more training of this kind in the BVI and during the wrap-up session someone proposed a discussion forum be formed where leaders can learn from each other. We were also very happy that the Elmore Stoutt High School accepted the invitation to send two students as mentoring of the next generation of leaders is important,” both Shaina and Judy responded.
