Athletes from eight teams including an athlete from St. Croix’s Hounds and Foxes, will compete in Saturday’s 4th Gatorade Series Development Series Meet, which begins at 10 a.m. on the A. O. Shirley Recreation Grounds.
In addition to athletes seeking qualifying marks for several upcoming competitions, this event, in honor of Rose Phillips King Adams, will feature athletes competing in multi disciplines as the BVI Athletics Association selectors get a first look at contenders in the U15 and U13 Division for this year’s CAC Age Group Championships.
Athletes in each event will accumulate points for each performance with the highest individual male and female scorer being declared the winner.
The BVI hosted the last championships in 2011 and this year’s event is scheduled for Curacao on June 29 and 30.
Events on the program will also give athletes in the Heptathlon and Pentathlon an opportunity to mix it up and see how many points they can score.
The 4th Gatorade Development Meet, the Johnny Hassan Relays, is scheduled for Feb. 22. Online registration opens on Tuesday, Feb 12 and closes on Feb 18.
