Abrupt end to Jouvert [includes images]

“Dem trying to sabotage Showtime….three bands playing and we in the middle and they come to us first and tell us to stop playing or else we cant play in the parade,” Showtime Band members quibbled. The Band’s comments were in response to a request made by officers of the Royal BVI Police Force for Jouvert 2010 to end at 7:00 a.m on Monday morning.
Members of the Xtreme Band also complained about the request stating, “Imagine we celebrating our emancipation and we cant even enjoy our Jouvert,” a band member announced.
At first the bands seemed to ignore the police’s request and even though Showtime was allegedly told that they could be arrested if they continued playing the band strummed up at least twice after.
A few persons in the crowd pleaded with the officers saying, “The Festival Committee said they could play,” “We didn’t have any crime, it was peaceful so why they stopping the Jouvert”,” Give us at least fifteen minutes please.”
Overall this year’s Jouvert was great, there were the less popular activities of using paints, throwing water and beer. The action began around 4:55 a.m.
Showtime Band experienced some technical difficulties at first but caught up soon enough.
The Jouvert bands were: New Era, Showtime Band and Xtreme. A second ‘Rise and Shine’ tramp is scheduled for tomorrow morning.

Boss forget SHOWTIME AND XTREME!!!!!!!! New Era band turn up the placeeeeeee..Am not goin to lie Xtreme went on band an them boys had sound clean but showtime GARBAGEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! Just imagine this is New Era 3rd time ever playing an them boys pile session!!!!!!!

I lovin your post. Felt like the ole time days when your sit down and listen to a story. You’re making a lot of sense. I wouldn’t even add much to it than to say you hit the nail on the head when you said they dragging up the road half naked like they can’t pick up they foot. Imagine it had about 15 out of the 43 entries that was troupes. Wha call Nibbs doin with a truck showing 2 workman tools wha he selling in his shop. Might as well he had generator on that truck for sale or rent for all them technical difficulties the band them wa having. Waste of time.
xtreme, showtime is jus bout a bunch a lil boys tryn to out do each other and nun a dem succeedin. lol lol n SOUND LIKE CRAP n a BUNCH A NOISE. even the all woman band sound betta dan ayo. whether in the band or real life da members of these bands r a bunch a lil boi z. lol lol. dem need to travel out in c wa really goes on in the other islands wen it comes to jouvert, buh hear dis, long ago, in my time, wen u hear jouvert, u kno wa time it was. jouvert use to start on time and go on till weneva, caus wa, we had bhaviour, n still mek it in time for the parade AND come up the street wid all da vigor in the world. ayo 2day even tho the jouvert dun 7, ayo still got time to go home to get a lil sleep, we didnt. wen time for the parade u comin up the road dead dead dead, OR, flappin your knee bone dem like ayo gah chicken fever or sum shit. we use to wukup a storm n perform even tho we was bone tired. we use to put on a show. wen u here we reachin the waterfront n u hear the leader say, “alright time fo a show” u cuddnt hold we, buh today e/body walkin makin the whole damn ting so borin and disgustin to watch, das y ppl travel to sum place wa gah carnival or go on the beach. lol lol. we use to put on jouvert attire, buh today dem goin to da syrian store to buy a jeans to walk n talkn bout jouvert. i sho if we from bak dem put a troupe together nex year we will outshine dese young fools. the attention will b on we. the bands played music for us to revel to,it wasnt about competion amongst themselves, yes we had our choice but it wasnt like how it is now, mehson we had more fun our costumes wuh hot, nowadays ayo half naked ( n i dont hav a problem wid dat) but still ayo wont play off the damn clothes propertly. just walkin up n down outside your assigned troupe, sittin down on the side of the road (tired lol lol) or jus standing there, we didnt hav generator or TEKNICAL DIFFICULTIES lol lol, our show was always on. we use to go out n hav fun fun fun buh tis ayo the young n dumb who bhavin like tis still slavery, cumin out for revengence wid machette, n guns, n pieces of wood to hurt one another. check n c wat emancipation means. c if u c it means wa ayo depicting. call we old, we knew how to hav fun n fun we had. blaaaah
it start at FIVE AND END AT 7?……7? wow a 2 hour rise n shine tramp……? a damn 2 hour tramp?… i stop staying tola for carnival… antigua and barbados have carnival round the same time and it dont stop after 2 hrs. I MISS THE OLD DAYS WHEN TRAMP USE TO FINISH 10: -11

Yes you are correct, but at the same time they know this Rise n shine tramp has been kept every August Monday for how many years even when they canceled some years ago the parade still didn’t start on time. I say to change the tramp for the local bands to the Tuesday and let the outside bands them participate on the Monday.
If the Rise and Shine Tramp not Jouvert dont stop early then the parade cant start on time because its the same people participating and its the same road to be used. We just have to learn to obey rules and do things in the proper manner. We complain about the late start of the parade. How we goin get it started on time when trampers still in the streets?
I AM A SHOWTIME FAN But they Sucked this morning, i was very disappointed with the System it was not set well and you really couldn’t hear what they were saying, i really sick ah this band about trying to out do each other, them need to go down island and see wha jouvert is about, New Era was Nice and Extreme had the cleanest sound. So stop this stupidness about Showtime Showtime, sound like a set a lil babies.
Mehson Xtreme allll the wayyy!!! ayyee if they only let dem man play for 15mins more. RVIPF only frustrating people, I sure back home where half of them man from wether Barbados or St. Kitts jouvert going till mid-day and here they want to stop every kind of fun we suppose to have. The only time of year we could let loose and have fun celebrating our freedom from the slavemasters and they doing the same thing to us without the whips.
