It is now official: the BVI’s new all-female band, Adikshun, has been formed.
In an exclusive interview earlier this year, founder of the band Nicole Wheatley, aka Drummer Girl, spoke passionately about forming this all-female band. The idea got mixed reviews, but she stuck to her word, and several months later the BVI now has its own Adikshun.
Wheatley told BVI News in an interview this week that the name of the band stemmed from a group decision.
“All of us love music, so instead of using the word ‘Addiction’ we decided to change the spelling, but still have the same meaning, being addicted to music,” she said.
The band is already getting down to work. The band has been practicing together for only two months and “everything is done live”.
“At the present time the band is still practicing, working on more music. Hopefully throughout the coming months we can get more gigs. This past Saturday we played over at Last Resort, just so the girls who are not familiar with playing in front of a crowd got a little exposure as to what it would be like. The reception, I must say, was awesome. The people there loved us and encouraged us to continue the good work,” Wheatley said.
The band is still in need of a few personnel. Anyone interested in playing instruments or joining can contact Nicky (Nicole Wheatley) at 440-8040 or [email protected]
The eight-member group is also made up of several persons who are members of other bands.
“No, that would not be a problem, and no they have not left their bands. We all like different types of music so that’s what this band brings are variety of music to please everyone,” she said. “… Some people may question why didn’t I get this person or that person, but it’s who showed interest,” Wheatley said.
