Students and teachers perform "Juicy Mangoes"

The Eslyn Richez Learning Centre was recognized today by the Department of Agriculture on the occasion of the Mango Array and Tropical Fruit Festival Poetry Competition, in which ten of its students penned an invaluable five award-winning pieces.

The Department of Agriculture says it acknowledges the students’ interest and hard work, and as part of their commitment to youths in Agriculture, they wished to recognize the students.

This morning’s event on the school grounds saw the winning poems being performed by the authors who penned the masterpieces with the help of their dedicated teacher Mrs. Elaine Malone-Lewis.

The poem ‘Juicy Mangoes’ was performed.

Malone-Lewis, joined other teachers and the school’s principal in applauding the “excellent job” of the students and the Department of Agriculture. She says the initiative was “a learning experience for the children,” who were guided line by line.

In the meantime, Sylvia Faulkner from the Department of Agriculture said, on behalf of Chief Agricultural Officer – Bevin Braithwaite, the school’s five poems were among the most instrumental of the overall 46 pieces that were submitted.

She commended the students and the school for the effort and expressed the wish that the same come from the community at large.

2011 marks the second successful Mango Array and Tropical Fruit Festival and all indications are that it will continue in 2012.
