“The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.” – Proverbs 10:22

Today we are thankful to God as we reflect on this day, 26 years ago, where we were joined together in holy matrimony at the New Testament Church of God in St. Thomas.

In the midst of all the challenges we have faced, God has been good to us and He has kept us, strengthened us, matured us and helped us to grow in love with Him and with each other.

Today we would like to encourage married couples to put God first in their marriage.

Let God be the head of your home.

Husbands and wives, let us be who God has called us to be.  We cannot do this in our own strength but with God’s help it is possible to be happily married. Many talk a lot about falling in love but it is more beneficial to grow in love.  Marital experiences expand far beyond the bliss or the wedding; many prepare and put a lot into the wedding, but not into the marriage.  Yet, there are those who put their all into their marriage but the marriage ended in divorce.  Your marriage might have failed but that does not mean you are a failure.

Ask God to give you the strength to move on. Marriage is first of all a covenant.  The scriptural definition of covenant is: solemn and binding relationship which is meant to last a life time.  A marriage ordained by God is a holy covenant between God, the man and the woman. This is sealed by the scripture “What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” Mark 10:9  But all marriages are not put together by God.

We live in a time where people marry for many different reasons.  All do not marry because of love or the leading of the Lord.  For some it is for convenience, for others it is because of money, an age factor, sex, or pregnancy; others are simply forced into marriage. If God has joined you together, it is not His will that your marriage fail.  He wants His will and purpose for you and your spouse individually and collectively to be fulfilled.

The sanctity of the marriage often determines the stability of the home.  There are many arrows that come against marriages as a whole, whether they are put together by God or not.  However, God has helped us through 26 years because of our commitment to Him, unconditional love, forgiveness, fasting, prayer and tokens of appreciation.  The challenges have brought us closer and made us stronger in God.  We have truly proven God to be not only our Jehovah Jireh, but also our Jehovah El Gibor, the one who fights our battles.  The end result is that no weapon formed against our marriage prospers.

No marriage is perfect but we thank God for perfecting us and shaping us into the couple He desires us to be so that He will, in all things, be glorified.  We continue to move from glory to glory, trusting in our God who has proven Himself faithful to us. Today, if you are married, we pray God’s blessings upon your marriage and encourage you first of all if you do not know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour to accept Him into your heart today.

God is more than able to help you to be the husband or wife He has created you to be and in the midst of whatever challenge you may be facing in your marriage, nothing is too hard for the Lord. Thanks to those of you who continue to encourage us as we spread the Word of God.  We cannot forget the prayers made on our behalf and the love shown to us by those who genuinely care about us.

To our friends and family, know that you are daily in our prayers.  May the blessings of God overtake you today.

Lord, we give you thanks that we are a living testimony that MARRIAGE WORKS!  We give God all the glory.
