“I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it.” – Revelation 3:8a

When God opens a door for you, no man can shut it.

Many times people think that the matter of doors being opened for them is merely a natural one.

Some think that if they do this or that, if they could only speak with this or that person, or if they could only get this or that person to be on their side, then a door would be sure to open for them.

However, the matter of opening doors is a matter that’s in the hands of the Lord. Many people fail to realize that the matter of open doors is more a spiritual one than a physical one.

God is the one who opens doors and God is the one who closes doors. When God opens a door for you, no man can shut it; when God shuts a door for you, no man can open it.

“I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name” (Revelations 3:8). God is a God of divine wisdom, and He knows which doors to open for us. Sometimes we think that we know the doors that should be opened to us.

The fact is, we only know in part, God sees the whole picture. Have you ever wondered why a job or a promotion, a relationship, a new car, a relocation, or a change in ministry that you thought was the perfect solution to your problems just did not work out for you? The door was shut for a reason or reasons that you might not have understood at the time.

Sometimes the reason for the closed doors is explained in weeks, months, or years to come. Other times, we never are not quite sure why some doors closed. We should just be willing to trust God and trust His judgment in every area of our lives. Once we truly trust God we’ll come to realize that we don’t have to go pushing, begging, sucking up, and pulling strings here and there for things to happen for us.

Whatever God has for us, we’ll get it in His perfect timing. In our own strength we sometimes try to open up doors that God has closed. When we do this, we’re actually telling God that He doesn’t know what’s best for us. When we do this, the door may open for a short time and then suddenly close. We all have desires, dreams, and hopes—things that we really want to happen. Yet we must be willing to wait patiently on the Lord and follow His directions for these things to come to pass. Sometimes it may seem as if God has forgotten your address.

You may look around and see different people getting blessed and promoted. The flesh may even try to tell you at times that you’re doing more for the Lord and that more should happen for you—that more doors should be opened for you. Put the flesh under subjection and walk in the Spirit. Don’t allow pride in your life to delay your open door. “Rejoice with them that do rejoice” (Romans 12:15).

Know this day that God has an appointed time set for your harvest. If you’re in ministry and know that God has truly called and anointed you, know that the God who has called you will also open doors for you. He will enlarge your borders and open doors for you. When some people in ministry feel like things are not happening fast enough, they go ahead of God and try to open a door for themselves instead of waiting on the leading of the Lord.

The best door to walk through is one that God has opened unto you: “Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ’s gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 2:12). God’s timing is perfect. Doors opened in the flesh and doors created by man which were not ordained by God will eventually close. “And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God” (Acts 5:38, 39). Only what is of God will stand. Trust God to open doors for you. Jesus Christ not only opens doors, but He is the Door.

Today, I would like to introduce you not only to the one who opens doors but to the one who is “The Door,” Jesus Christ. In John 10:9 Jesus said, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.” In Jesus Christ you can find safety, shelter, peace, joy, and so much more.” I encourage you today to surrender all to Jesus Christ. He’s the only way, the only truth, and the only life. “…To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts” (Hebrews 3:15a) “…behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2b). Come to Jesus Christ today.
