The Immigration Department processed 2, 398 labour clearances last year.

In its annual report for 2011, it says this figure includes persons entering the territory for temporary employment as well as for entertainment purposes.

The report says its records for 2011 also shows that 829 of these persons remained in the territory for employment purposes in various capacities and 393 were granted permission upon application to reside.

At the Virgin Gorda Office, 258 labour clearances were processed.

The Immigration Department report says there are concerns that arrivals for employment, especially on Tortola, is very high given the economic situation.
