Alvera Maduro-Caines busy in the 6th District

Sixth District Representative Alvera Maduro-Caines intends to make good on her promises on the campaign trail of putting the residents, particularly the youth, first.
In a recent interview with BVI News, Maduro-Caines said that she is at present working along with the Purcell Estate Community Centre Committee in devising a Christmas programme for the community in an effort to foster better community relations.
Maduro-Caines came to office two weeks ago when she snatched the district seat for her party from Virgin Islands Party veteran, Omar Hodge, in an unprecedented upset at the November 7 polls.
She revealed to BVI News that she will be coordinating with the Purcell Estate community on getting the centre furnished for the upcoming holidays.
Maduro-Caines is also spearheading efforts in developing an after-school programme and a basketball tournament this weekend at the upgraded Purcell Estate basketball court.
“This is to afford the youth an opportunity to interact more with each other,” she said about the basketball tournament.
Also on the agenda for her is the establishment of committees in Baugher’s Bay and Belle Vue.
“These committees will serve as the eyes and ears in the district and liaise with me on things that need to be done in the district,” she noted.
Maduro-Caines had promised during the National Democratic Party’s campaign that she will improve on the projects and social activities already in place.
“For I feel our district deserves much more than we have today after 32 years of representation from the same person,” Maduro-Caines had said at a sixth district rally.
At the same rally, the NDP representative also had the following to say, “It seems to me like the sixth district has the most unemployed youth and this we have to pay special attention to. We must find or create jobs for these young people and don’t tell me it can’t be done.
“Some people tell me these young people don’t want any work but that is not what I am hearing when I speak with these young people. I personally have been calling around trying to help some of them find work. Some of these youths that hang out on the blocks in various areas of this district are stigmatized and viewed by some as non-contributing members of this community,” she said.
The Belle Vue, Cooten Bay, Butu Mountain, Baughers Bay, Jean Hill, Fort Hill, Parts of Johnson Ghut, Purcell, Fish Bay, Kingston and Free Bottom communities all comprise the sixth district.

Why Omar did’nt just leave that ghut unitl after the election? I hope New Demon Party stratergy going forward is to help this woman as much as possible. Move it out with a truck?. to those of you who have negative things to say about Maduro and how she sound on NDP radio, I am guessing you never listened to Omar Hodge. At least she spoke with sense and answered the questions. She asked for the ghut project to be stopped and I agree with her. The whole project was done on mistakes that were made by Omar engineer. She the government (not even her) let them continue this project on mistakes made? This would not have solve the flooding problems. As for the puppet talk, I do not see her as a puppet. She is doing what she was hired to do.Make a difference in the district. Gosh man, it’s not even a month and allu here bad talking this lady. You had Omar for 32 years doing piss and no one said anything..just took it for all those years. She is now trying to make a difference and all you can here from you VIP’s is bad talk. I am sure I saw her in the Belle Vue area walking this morning with residents there as in Purcell the other evening. This lady is working so please all you haters GIVE HER A DARN BREAK!!!

Pock Wood Pond has a Quarry, Incinerator, Power plant, gas station, fuel depot, asphalt plant and so on and everytime you look on the hill a new house being built. Something like that does’nt belong in the middle of a residential community with the 6th being the fastest growing community and two schools and many homes only a few hundred yards away. We got sense you know.
What you going do about Skelton Quarry? What about the environmental health of the district? Should we forever be forced to inhale aslpalt smoke, rock and concrete dust?
That is a private business, not a govt plant. you might consider moving from there as many others have done if you do care about your health. Do you think she can go shut down the plant?
