The world-renown and award-winning Corky Siegel will make a much anticipated return appearance in a chamber blues performance at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium, H. Lavity Stout Community College on Saturday 25 at 8:00 p.m.
A composer, blues pianist and singer/songwriter, Mr. Siegel has earned an international reputation as one of the world’s great blues harmonica masters. For his performance at HLSCC, he will be accompanied by Frank Donaldson (percussion), Jocelyn Butler (cello), Aurelien Fort-Pederzoli and Chihsuan Yang (violin), and Dave Moss (viola).
He is a recent winner of the Lila Wallace/Reader’s Digest/Meet the Composer’s National Award for Chamber Music Composition and the Illinois Arts Council Fellowship Award for Music Composition.
Corky’s career began with a fortunate break when he formed the legendary Siegel-Schwall Band that toured the major rock palaces and clubs in the 1960 and 70s. He was introduced to the blues through his very first steady engagement at an internationally renowned blues club, where his job included performances with the masters themselves, including Willie Dixon, Little Walter, Muddy Waters, and Howlin’ Wolf.
Armed with the creative genius and instrumental prowess that have defined his career for nearly four decades, Siegel has pioneered an original, genre-busting chamber blues––a fresh, innovative sound capturing the sparkling qualities of classical music merged with the emotional melodic style of blues, all within an intimate chamber setting.
The performers in Corky Siegel’s Chamber Blues have been described by critics as astonishing, extraordinary, hot, mesmerising, joyous and outrageous fun. Their music has delighted diverse audiences globally, and their innovative presentations have drawn new and old concert-goers.
As part of their visit to the Virgin Islands, there will also be a Student Outreach Show, entitled “Music and the Joy of Diversity with Corky Siegel,” on Friday 24 February at 10:00 a.m., also at the Auditorium. Entry will be complementary to the students and teachers from the pre-invited schools.
President Dr. Karl Dawson said HLSCC is pleased to again welcome Mr. Siegel and his group to the territory and more specifically to the College, where he performed twice before. “Long time HLSCC concert goers would remember Corky’s astounding mix of instruments and sounds, and we look forward to another rousing performance, an entertaining night of music, and wish him and his band an enjoyable stay in these islands,” he said.
Corky Siegel’s Chamber Blues played in the Virgin Islands in November 1996 and February 1998.
Tickets, $20 each, are available from LIME, HLSCC Bookstore, Sunny Caribbee, Road Town Bakery and UMI Fashions; or call 852-7223. LIME and FirstBank Virgin Islands are platinum sponsors of the College’s 2011-12 Performing Arts Series.

I’ll go just to see that girl in the back, she’s hot! Maybe she might let me pull the ‘string’ on her ‘instrument’
Unlike the other concerts going on in the territory. The college’s events are designed to be educational. There is a big difference between a Music Festival and a Performing Arts Series. As our children grow, they need nicely-rounded stimulation and exposure to different interests in order to turn out to be informed and educated adults later. At the college children have the opportunity to learn about music and culture from around the world and different genres. The musicians and dancers that come actually hold workshop sessions with the children and adults who are interested to teach them about what they do. The idea is that it might inspire them to work hard at whatever their interest might be. Especially for children who don’t have the luxary of traveling to other countries and seeing these things. Kids that live in the UK and USA benefit greatly from wonderful school trips to museams, symphones, plays, etc. Here in the BVI they don’t get that level of exposure. So what the college does should be supported allot more as a means of ensuring that our kids are more well rounded and able to compete with kids on the international stage.

question: how much does it costs to do these shows and how is the hlscc benefiting. maybe daniel can answer this?
most peeps who patronize these shows are the ones that get free tickets from where they are employed. Usually the managers, etc. who can more than afford to purchase the tickets.
You can’t afford $20 to go to a show?
the most expensive show I ever see the college have is when they had the Sowetto Gospel Choir ..and that was $50 and worth every bit … they couldn’t even hold the people …
look it up if you dont know .. Sowetto Gospel Choir ..simply amazing!!
