Minister of Environment, Planning and Infrastructure Strategy Walter Roban has released a ‘2011 Bermuda Energy White Paper: A National Energy Transition’, which outlines a nine-year plan that will guide the island on a sustainable path toward the production and consumption of energy.

The paper outlines how Bermuda will begin to create an alternate energy future not bound by fossil fuels but, rather, one where the island conserves energy, uses energy more efficiently and harnesses indigenous renewable energy resources.

Residents of Bermuda currently produce over 14 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per person, and The Energy White Paper provides a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions below ten tonnes per person by 2020.

Sounds like Bermuda is about a million miles ahead of the BVI. In BVI it is still a crime to generate solar power without a licence from BVIEC, and it is completely impossible to install a grid-tie.
