Monday, June 14 – The condition of a woman after being struck by a safari bus around midday today is still uncertain as of 5pm today but she is being detained at Peebles Hospital in the Surgical Ward.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the pedestrian was crossing the street in front of the former Clarence Thomas Building when she was struck by a driver coming from the east turning into the Wickhams Cay II. She was conscious when Police arrived at the scene of the accident.
An update will be provided as information becomes available.
Head of the Traffic Investigation Unit Inspector Kenrick Headley is again appealing to drivers to be vigilant when operating their vehicles.
“Drivers are expected to reduce speeds and exercise due consideration especially when driving through intersections, villages, school zones, heavy pedestrian traffic areas and areas where there are no sidewalks,” he noted.
Pedestrians are also expected to exercise good road safety skills when walking in high traffic areas.

Not even a 'Slow' sign when approaching this dangerous intersection. Road design and regulations are hopeless in the BVI. What about 'No Stopping' on the dual carriageway. What about some lay-bys for vehicles to pull off. Then there's the situation when leaving Wickham's Cay 2 you have to travel almost a mile the WRONGWAY before you can get to RITEWAY. The list of absurdities goes on….I could write a full page. By the way……..The BVI's 'Symbol of Stupidity' (traffic lights at the roundabout) are still there for everyone to laugh at and remind everyone of the intelligence of the VIP government!!
Indeed, at least a speed bump or something until the traffic light is set. How blind can the authorities be in order not to acknowledge the danger in that blind intersection? Some times I look and no vehicle is coming; I drive out and some fool approaches full speed. I was present when the accident occurred. The driver was driving at moderate speed, but did not see the victim. After the impact we had to get his attention, because he did not know that he was dragging the poor woman. I wish both of them all the best,
How easy or inexpensively would it cost for the traffic lights at the roundabout to be installed in the old Clarence Thomas vicinity? Injuries to life and limb, and damage to vehicles might be avoided.
