A man who claimed to have found 121.9 grams of cannabis in a hole while he was cleaning the side of the road appeared before Senior Magistrate Valerie Stephens today, April 25.
Brenton Penn pleaded guilty to the unlawful possession of cannabis but pleaded not guilty to unlawful possession with intent to supply, assault on police and resisting arrest.
Crown Counsel Herbert Potter told the court that on Wednesday, April 4 at 12:10 hours, three officers patrolling the vicinity of Alphonso Gas Station observed some young men sitting next to a scooter that had no license plate.
Officers approached the young men and noted a strong scent of marijuana coming from the area. The officers allegedly asked the young men to be searched and the men agreed. At that time they noticed Penn putting a brown paper bag between his legs.
As officer approached him he pushed the officer and tried to run, but the officer held on to him and a struggle ensued. With the help of the other officers they were able to subdue him. The police asked Penn what he had and he said: “Man it’s weed. I was cleaning the side of the road and found it in a hole.”
The substance was weighed and found to be 121.9 grams with an estimated street value of $1,219.
The matter was adjourned to June 13.

Aight, Rasta. You “find” it on the road. Cool. tek it home huh man? Anybody with an ounce (you had 3 and change!) of common sense ain’t going to gah that much of an illegal substance on them at any given time unless them was going to get rid of it in one go.
Also, to gah it in a place wha smelling of damn weed too? You get catch with a joint or enough to roll one or two (smoking in public is another show self production that deserve a lockup) you can clearly state that you consuming and argue that it ain’t hurting nobody.
Them might-a let you go. But nah, Ayo man gah play “untouchable”. I mean, I don’t support crime in most cases and until we can get this thing decriminalized Ayo treat sale and consumption with respect nuh buddy? Finding that amount in your car from a search is a “whammy” but sitting with it in a spot that done hot up is just plain ignorance.
FREE THE WEED! How much deos ti cost to prosecute these guys? Apply scarce resources to gun, violence and hard drug control.
I totally agree with Ray.
u cannot expect better ray… bvi only have wanksters…
My goodness. It appears that everyone caught with weed is finding it on the streets as of late. Come on guys. You have to do better than this. If you are going to lie, which you should not do, at least, tell a believable story. These stories are just bitter pills than no one will swallow.
