West Indies – Notesmaster.com has begun digitising and publishing instructional materials from the e-Learning Jamaica Company Limited’s item bank.
These materials include tests, quizzes and exercises which have been made available under Creative Commons Licenses. All resources are free to use and initially cover seven subjects; Information Technology, Mathematics, Biology, Geography, Chemistry, English and Social Studies.
Authors
Under the guidance of the e-Learning Jamaica Company Limited, teachers from schools around Jamaica have been submitting practice multiple choice tests and quizzes for students to take.
These have proven to be very successful as recent praise for the e-Learning project in the media has shown.
Notesmaster.com is building on the success of the e-Learning project by presenting these materials in a variety of ways designed to engage students. With the May – June 2011 CSEC® examinations on the horizon, CSEC® students in the British Virgin Islands will be able to access a variety of short multiple choice exercises as well as longer timed tests. This comes at the appropriate time in the education cycle when the clamour for past papers and practice tests are at their peak.
Access
Through making the materials available on Notesmaster, more students will be able to practice and receive real-time feedback as all answers are provided at the point of submission.
The e-Learning exercises are stored on Notesmaster in the appropriate areas of the syllabus and can be saved by students to their own virtual desks. By combining the work being done by teachers and project co-ordinators at the e-Learning Jamaica Company Limited, with the technologies freely available on Notesmaster, some of the issues surrounding equity and access to quality online materials in the Caribbean are being addressed.
The fact that a number of territories in the English speaking Caribbean follow the CSEC® curriculum, presents a unique opportunity for knowledge sharing. Therefore, submissions by Jamaican teachers from Campion College, St Jago’s High School, Charlemont High School and Holy Trinity High School to name but a few, could be of benefit to students in all 19 territories currently participating in CSEC® examinations.

WOW WONDERFUL
This is an excellent initiative. I hope that all students would capitalize on this useful free resource. As an IT teacher I visited the site and found it to be easy to use and informative. I took a quiz and found that the quality and standard of the question in this area were appropriate at the CSEC level. I gladly recommend this to all students.
i wish i had this opportunity when i was going to school.
