SEPTEMBER 12—Local football action will kick off on September 23, with the Wendon “Poto” Williams Cup knockout tournament. That will be immediately followed by another knockout tournament for the Terry Evans Cup. The drawing for the knockout competition will be completed by the weekend.

Following the two knockout competitions, the 2012-13 National League will swing into action.
During a recent meeting with the clubs to discuss plans for the upcoming competitions, BVI Football Association officials introduce the concept of a Premier League and a National League format for next year’s competitions.

With the exception of league champs Islanders, all club representatives attending the meeting agreed to the new format. In arriving at the decision for this new format, clubs have agreed that for this year’s competition, they will be split into two groups, based on the position they finished in the standings at the end of the 2011-12 National League.

Teams that were ranked in the odd number will form one group and the even number finishers forming another. The two new teams wishing to take part in the league will be allocated to each of the groups, at the discretion of the Competition Committee.

Teams drawn in the two groups are as follows: Group I: Islanders, Sugar Boys, Lucian Stars, Old Madrid and Ball Stars. Group II: One Love, Wolues, VG United, Panthers and Haitian Stars.

During the meeting, rules pertaining to the National League with respect to starting time for games to start begin were agreed too. Teams were advised that these regulations will be strictly adhere to, along with the use of unregistered players.
