Sprinters Karene King and Britney Wattley who compete for the Portland State Vikings and the Morgan State Bears respectively, turned in personal best 200 and 100 meters performances over the weekend.
King became the BVI’s second best 200 meters performer all time, when she cracked the 24 seconds barrier for the first time in her career with a time of 23.86 seconds.
The Vikings senior took 0.32 seconds off her previous best while competing at the Oregon Relays in Eugene, Oregon.
She was third overall and has the fastest 200 meters time in the Big Sky Conference and is second overall in the 100 meters with an 11.67 mark. King had a time of 11.96 seconds in the 100 meters where she was fifth.
Meanwhile, Wattley lowered her 100m personal best to 12.00 to finish fourth in the Morgan State Legacy meet, after running 12.15 in the preliminary round. She had a season’s best of 24.60, the second fastest of her collegiate career, to place fourth overall in the 200 meters. She anchored the 4 x 100 meters relay team that finished second in 46.85 seconds.
Texas senior Chantel Malone was sixth in the Michael Johnson Classic 400 meters with an outdoor season opening 53.42 seconds.
She had the third best time of her career over 200 meters, with a sixth place heat finishing time of 24.05 seconds.
