The British Virgin Islands Football Association launched their After School League on Sunday with a March Pass followed by some friendly matches at the A.O. Shirley ground.
The players marched from the car park opposite Pusser’s to the A.O. Shirley ground where the teams congregated for the official opening ceremony.
All the school teams were show casing their new Adidas kits which the BVI FA has provided for the after school leagues.
The most organized teams during the march pass were rewarded with brand new Adidas Jabulani size 5 and size 3 footballs.
Unfortunately no government official nor anyone from the Department of Youth Affairs and Sport made the event and as such it was left for the BVI FA’s first vice president Aubrey Liburd to officially open the league.
Following the official opening ceremony a number of friendly matches took place which went ahead despite the occasional rain shower. The event was a resounding success and was a fitting opening to the league which will run until the end of the school term in July.
Six leagues will be run in total. At Primary School level there will be under 7’s, under 9’s and under 12’s with under 14’s and under 18’s at High School level. All the leagues apart from the under 18’s are mixed for both boys and girls and at under 18 level there will be separate leagues for both men and women.
All the fixtures are now up on the BVI FA’s website (www.bvifootballassociation.com) and you can follow all the action on the site with up to date league tables, match reports, team rosters, pictures and top goal scorers.

I agree. All mouth and no action from this Ministry and Department
No representative from the education ministry nor the youth affairs and sports showed up. But yet in their political campaign they will be singing about supporting youths in activities organized to keep them out of crime. Actions speak louder than words Minister Fahie!! If you couldn’t make it, you could have delegated someone to represent the ministry.
