Alred C. Frett

Few say they wish they could say the things I say the way I say them while many like saying I think I know all because they choose to know nothing… Fact is I am just an ordinary man who realizes Ignorance rides on excuses while Knowledge drives responsibilities. .. As a consequence things we do Today demonstrate our own understanding of Yesterday and vision of Tomorrow.

For months we have been expending Time & Monies we cannot afford in preparing our Children and Local Slave Traders to addle their Brains in burning sun or pouring rain as they pay homage to a legacy of Betrayal, Slavery & Colonialism… With shiny Medals of Brass & Trinkets of Treason many will be there in a display of pride & comfort in the Hypocrisy of Democracy.

This is a perfect opportunity for social monkeyism where we value ourselves, not on what is inside us, but on the People that surround us for their own benefit… As a result of our quest to always be like someone else we live Lives of dissatisfaction , passing these on to our Children with instructions to thank Imaginary God for sparing their lives so they could pray for Massas.

I have nothing against the Queen… I think she is a fine Person who performed well within the System she inherited… However, my perception of Freedom does not support Systems in which People are handicapped by birth and taught to accept designated Rule of others as a way of life.
So while I have been invited to Ceremonies I refused because who know better should do better.

As a Child I was selected to meet the Queen and I did but as an adult I recall getting no help from the UK in my struggle for Schools & a New Hospital even as they appeared anxious to provide our Children with Prison, Lunatic Asylum & Oppression by proxy… To repeat that which I did as a Child would simply set a very bad example for our Children of the 21st Century.

There is no expectation for you to do as I do and the Right you have to attend is the same Right I have not to attend… However, none of us should have that right or desire to tell our Children & Grandchildren that Systematic Restrictions they face are things they should praise when our real responsibility is to teach them self-worth & self-pride rather than the glorification of others.

Like most Events this Jubilation will come and pass with the hoopla & fanfare being more for the Favoured Servants than for the Queen… Without explanation the Poor will find themselves intellectually & financially poorer without truly understanding why… This Article may be a necessary link that can take them from the Fantasy of Yesterday to the Reality of Tomorrow.

The B.V.I. and the U.S.V.I. need to dump their Colonial Masters and become independent Nations-either separately or together. Only then will their peoples’ colonized mentality be extirpated. No more ‘God Save the Queen.’ No more ‘God Bless America.’

The world is full of sheep thats just how things are. A never ending cycle revolving around ignorance. Nobody seeks to know anything. Sons and daughters grow up blindly following their parents dreams, ideologies and religous beliefs. A difference in opinion means that you’re stupid or crazy. If you arent one of the links that form the chain you’re deemed weird. The enlightened ones actually feed the ignorance to the masses for their own personal gain of wealth, power and control and the sheep blindly follow their lead.

Well, well I usually skip reading your commentaries because they always in someway belittle people who believe differently to you. (gullible fairly tale believing people)
Today is different, just yesterday I was trying to explain to someone the same things you are talking about.

This is without any doubt in my mind the best article I have ever read from you. It is so true and so sad all what are you mentioning here and it says so much about our still existing inner slavery mentality that scares me, since like most of us I have mixed and contradictory feelings. Like you said, nothing against the Queen, God give her many more dawns, but really, deep inside her Majesty is not ours no matter how many pictures we might like to hang on our walls. It is about time for our tiny Caribbean Country to really be ourselves, it is time to define us… We have our hands full with our own challenges to keep playing this “Britannica” game

I try to show my 13 year old son that by being a BLACK MAN in this society the odds already against you…You must know your heritage know what society expects from you then RUIN their expectation by educating yourself and become a successful member of your society WITHOUT forgetting who you are…DO NOT REPEAT THE SINS OF YOUR FATHER….ME.

Those who can, teach! Those who can, speak! Those who can, lead! We have great teachers and speakers and we applaud them for their contributions. The above commentary demonstrates such thinking, teaching, speaking and knowledge of the intellectual quandary colored folk of African descent living in the diaspora are still faced with and will have to resolve perhaps centuries into the future, if ever!!!! But one will not have to wonder where we are mentally and where the detractors will continue to lead the vacuous, just continue to witness the negative responses such will engender. I am sure there will be many. Most profoundly, will the types of leaders come along that will teach, educate, motivate, translate and emancipate, from the grass roots up, the minds of our people and excite them into becoming free, at last? Will there be a government in sync with the aspirations of the people? “Before you have a government you must have the people. Without the people there can be no government. The government must be, therefore, be an expression of the will of the people.” Until our people are educated from the birth with the correct teachings from books written by us for us we are as good as the next next goat, chicken, cow or pig destined for slaughter and consumption. Education, as described by the great Marcus Garvey says, “is to be learned in all that is worth while knowing. Not to be crammed with the subject matter of the book or the philosophy of the class room, but to store away in your head such facts as you need for the daily application of life, so that you may be the better in all things and understand your fellowmen, and interpret your relationship to your Creator.”
“You can be educated in soul, vision and feeling, as well as in mind. To see your enemy and know him is a part of the complete education of man; to spiritually regulate one’s self is another form of the higher education that fits man for a nobler place in life, and still, to approach your brother by the feeling of your own humanity, is an education that softens the ills of the world and makes us kind indeed.”
“Many a man was educated outside the school room. It is something you let out, not completely take in. You are part of it, for it is natural; it is dormant simply because you will not develop it, but God creates every man with it knowingly or unknowingly to him who possesses it – that’s the difference. Develop yours and you become as great and full of knowledge as the other fellow without even entering the class room.”
The notions expounded in the above commentary are true and factual. Immediately following that spectacle so aptly described in the commentary was concluded, there should have been rallies convened throughout the nation to teach the masses of the self defeating purpose of such and why all should strive to create ceremonies that are genuinely beneficial, uplifting and democratic to all/us.
Such would have displayed signs of authentic, knowledgable foresight-fulness and progressive leadership. Unfortunately, intellectual insights, and the planting, sowing and reaping of the fruit of those seeds, like trickle down economics, do not work for the masses. They will not reap rewards when the forces of the status quo, continued subjugation and coveting are more entrenched, powerful and determined to have, hold and keep into perpetuity control of the earth, its resources and the minds of our people. The late great Bob Marley left us his most poignant message, “emancipate thyself from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds.” That journey is yet to take a foot hold into the consciousness of our people. So until then, we will continue to celebrate others, their achievements and not ourselves, as we continue to put down and destroy our own. And they laugh at us as we dwell in our blissful ignorance. Lastly, we often will not agree with a particular opinion, but the very least that should be done is to respectfully disagree with such.

WOW! I couldn’t have said this any better if I tried my hardest! SPOT ON!! I wish I could shake your hand right now whoever you are, TRUTH well spoken!!!!

Alred is right again! People are just upset because he said he doesn’t believe in ‘God’ so they hold on to that one sentiment without looking at the context of his arguments. Regardless of what the man believes he still has the ability to tell the truth and that’s what should count. I don’t always agree with him but when you look at the CRUX of all his pieces, the underlying message, he is RIGHT!!

If you look at all the pomp that went into that celebration, why we never did that for Noel Lloyd? Why we never had that for HL Stoutt? Why we don’t have these things for other locals who have made positive impacts on this Territory, allowing to live the ‘good’ life we live today? What is the real meaning of it all? I don’t think anything is wrong with showing ‘respect’ to the Queen as we’re a British Overseas Territory but what happen to showing this level of appreciation for our own?

Happy to learn there are insightful minds in our midst. Gosh, sometimes it seems so hopeless! Who am I? Teacher, very tall, handsome and scholar/musician/composer/conductor. Wish i could really do some real teaching.

I am a Bible beliving Christian but “Pray” you comment is wrong in so many areas. Not even our God forces anyone to believe. If Alred Frett is Muslim that is is choice and would explain a lot of his writings one sided attacks on Christianity. Mr Frett in recent weeks (Not This week) has been brazen in his attacks on Christianity and Christianity only. Thats why his submissions can no longer be seen as credible.

Read his postings for what they are – his opinions, not news.

It is far from bitter. It is the grapes the fox is still trying to reach. He who in this enlightened time with vast amounts of available knowledge do not understand the basic notions based on historical fact will still reflect the debilitated consciousness whose seeds were planted long, long ago. All of which is being manifested in the present day mental/intellectual, historical, social, psychological and political state of the African, home and displaced and worldwide. Even in the economic sphere, he is still grasping at crumbs in comparison to the world’s economic brokers, when in most instances, he was and still the creator of profound wealth for the benefit of others across the globe.
