Monday 16 July 2012 – The Cavaliers Cricket Club took their 4th successive 20-20 domestic championship title with a comfortable 7-wicket win over the Vikings Sports Club on Sunday 15 July at the Virgin Gorda Recreation Ground.

Batting first after winning the toss, the Vikings top order batsman found runs hard to come by, managing a mere 46 runs for the loss of 2 wickets after the first 11 overs. Just as they tried some big hitting to get to a respectable score, a hat trick by Julian Sinclair in his first over again pegged them back.

Although a bit expensive, Sinclair went on to complete a man-of-the-match 5 for 49 off his four overs and the Vikings were only able to get to 123 all out in their 20 overs. Richard Fredericks was again the best batsman for the Vikings, scoring 32. He was supported by Govin Singh and Anil Mahabir with 25 and 23, respectively.

Julian Sinclair is congratulated by Andy Davis, Small Business Manager of Scotiabank, for his man-of-the-match performance with the ball.

Although the Vikings looked to make a fight of defending their below-par score, it appeared to be easy sailing for the defending champions, as they reached 124 for 3 in 17.4 overs. Keith Semple led the way with 60 not out, while Dorian Auguiste made 29. Steve Sinclair, who bowled with some pace, took 1 for 15, while Mahendra Moonesar got 1 for 17 and Vaden Walker 1 for 23.

Walker, the Vikings captain said he was pleased with his team reaching the finals for the first time, but admitted they fell short of posing a challenging enough total, in particular with the Cavaliers fresh from chasing 202 in the semi-finals against Virgin Gorda.

Newly appointed Cavaliers skipper Teddy Nankisore, who earlier in the tournament led the way with his batting, thanked the entire team for their support and commitment, although he acknowledged being a bit nervous before the finals.

Along with the winning trophy, the Cavaliers picked up $2,000, while the Vikings collected the runner-up trophy and $1,500, all compliments of Scotiabank, the main sponsor for the 2012 tournament.

The game was watched by a good crowd, among those being President of HLSCC Karl Dawson and Small Business Manager of Scotiabank Andy Davis, who both participated in the presentation ceremony after the game.

I understand what you’re saying Mr. Yadav. Very good point. Cavaliers have been around for a longer time so they are more organised.

But the Vikings are getting stronger and better as a club. They already have some really good players. They are good enough to win a tournament, they just have to keep on working together as a club.

Other clubs in the BVI should take example and follow likewise.

    I guess…Its becoming 1 sided tournament year by year…
Most of the cavaliers guys have made BVI national team and have ample opportunities, experience and money too..
Other clubs don’t have any experienced guys and
also don’t have money to practice..

So yearly, cavaliers are becoming strong and other clubs are not.
Its a condition similiar to what Trinidad is in caribbean T20…10/11 guys in t T&T have made West indies national team and so each year they dominate the caribbean t20….

I am nt taking any credit away from cavaliers…tehy always play good and disciplind cricket…

Best of luck to vikings cricket club, they can do much better…

Intelligent people will understand my point and idiots will dislike and bark straight way….

Well done again to the Cavaliers team. They are a very organised club and play good cricket. The Vikings played well and they are improving. Next year’s tournament should be another exciting one.
