Mustafa Claxton, who was admitted to hospital after being involved in a tragic boating accident on September 1, has been released from Peebles Hospital on Tortola.

His friend Chaim Todman died hours after the incident.

Police Information Officer Diane Drayton on Wednesday told BVI News Online that Claxton was out of the medical facility, but she did not state specifically when he was discharged.

The survivor, who spent days at Peebles, was initially said to be ‘seriously injured’.

Meanwhile, Drayton also confirmed that police are yet to locate the engine that was in the boat at the time it crashed while in the waters of Jost Van Dyke, BVI.

The boat, with the engine intact, was reportedly taken from the scene of the accident and placed at the Jost Van Dyke Police Station for safe-keeping.

However, both the boat and the engine were later discovered missing from the police compound.

Drayton said the boat was eventually found on the island of Tortola, but the engine is still missing.

As was earlier reported by BVI News Online, the boat engine was reportedly malfunctioning moments before the fatal crash.

In fact, reports indicate that it had just being examined when Claxton and Todman decided to give it a test run.

During that activity, the boat was struck by a wave and both men fell overboard.

They were rescued and taken to Peebles Hospital where Todman was pronounced dead and Claxton admitted.

New details are emerging as to how Tortola resident Chaim Todman possibly met his demise during a boating incident on Jost Van Dyke here in the British Virgin Islands on Sunday (September 1).

There are indications that the vessel in which he was travelling along with Mustafa Claxton had developed mechanical problems while en route from Tortola to Jost Van Dyke.

Investigators have not confirmed any direct link between the mechanical issues and the crash.

However, BVI News has been reliably informed that the two men were busy trying to address the problems that were being experienced with the engine of Claxton’s 21-foot speed boat entitled ‘1-800-Collect’.

When certain works were eventually done on Jost Van Dyke, Todman reportedly advised that the vessel be tested in the waters.

During the test-run, the boat was knocked by a wave and both men ended up in the sea. They were however rescued.

Sources close to the situation told BVI News Online that Todman was unconscious while Claxton appeared to have suffered serious injuries.

Both men were taken by boat to Tortola where the territory’s only hospital is located.

Todman was pronounced dead minutes after 7pm.

Police, on Monday evening, reported that Claxton is still in Peebles Hospital. They also noted Todman’s condition at the time he was taken to the medical facility.

“Upon arrival at Peebles Hospital, Chaim Todman was unresponsive and was shortly after pronounced dead,” the police said. “The boat captain (Claxton) was in stable condition and continues to receive treatment.”

BVI News also learned that both Todman and Claxton, before the accident unfolded, were scheduled to participate in a boating event in White Bay on Jost Van Dyke.

The event was however postponed.

Police said both men were heading out of White Bay when the vessel overturned.

SEE EARLIER STORY (published September 1, 2013; entitled: “Chaim Todman dead, another seriously injured on Jost Van Dyke”)

Police have confirmed that one man is dead and another seriously injured following a boating incident at Jost Van Dyke here in the British Virgin Islands on Sunday (September 1).

BVI News Online sources close to the situation said the dead man is Chaim Todman.

While not releasing the identity of the men, Police Information Officer Diane Drayton confirmed the incident.

“One man has died (and) one is seriously injured and at hospital after a boating incident in Jost Van Dyke,” she said, adding that further details will be provided.

Todman was pronounced dead at Peebles Hospital while the other man is undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, Todman’s Facebook page is already being flooded with words of condolences. Persons have been expressing shock.

One person posted: “No no no Chaim Todman you was at my business yesterday telling how far I could make it and now it hurt me cause you leave with good words in my heart. Good friends come and good friend go, but you alway be in my mind cause your in a better place. To all family and friends stay strong…”

Another post reads: “Dread my heart hurting!!. To Know we was just together last night having a drink and partying. . . And now to hear this hurtful News. . . . You will be truly missed. . . RIP. Sigh.”

Todman, who is a well know lover of the waters and boating, is being remembered as a loyal and loving person.

He however was no stranger to the courts here in the British Virgin Islands. Some of his matters were yet to be settled up to the time of his death.

Some of the most damning allegations made against him are in relation to a drug case that has been ambling through the court system since April 2012.

In that matter, Todman and three other men were allegedly held with a loaded gun and more than 200 grams of marijuana in West End.

The other men implicated are Mustafa Claxton, Jose Miguel Christopher, and Shaun Williams.

Police nabbed the quartet during an operation that started in the waters at Sopher’s Hole back in 2012.

The men were later charged with unlawful possession of cannabis, conspiracy to import cannabis, carrying an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition.

Police also charged Williams, Claxton and Christopher with illegal entry, importation of a firearm and importation of explosives.

They were granted bail and scheduled to stand trial in the Magistrate’s Court.

Todman and the other three have pleaded not guilty to the charges laid against them.

I can see how easily we have strayed from the subject “Fatal Boat Accident” to who was fkn who, and who’s acting like they was still together and such. Now lets get back to the BOAT and how it got out of police custody. With all the high-tech electronics that are available today, you still trying to tell me that people could just walk, crawl, climb, or drive into a police station/compound and steal a boat? Horse feathers!

Young people out there God is no respector of persons. Where death meet you judgement will pick you up. Satan is out there making a mockery of your life and you cannot see it. Get ready for Jesus is coming soon. I remember this man in church from a young age. Satan showed him a better life out there and he took it. And now the judgement set the books have been opened how shall he stand in that great day? Young people get ready Jesus is coming.
