The residents of the Seventh and Eighth Districts will soon have one major health clinic.
Currently, there is a small clinic which serves the residents of the Seventh District and another serving the people of the Eighth.
However speaking at a recent community meeting held at the East End/Long Look Community Centre, Health Minister Ronnie Skelton said these are two large communities and the time has come for there to be one major clinic to serve the residents of these areas.
“One of the things that has happened is that we have stretched in terms of resources both human, financial and physical as it relates to clinics in the whole British Virgin Islands,” Skelton said. “We have clinics in almost every district, and we have come to the point where we need to re-think our strategies. If we look at the East End/Long Look areas, the time has come for us to re-think and have a major clinic instead of two small clinics, one in Long Look and one in East End.”
The health minister said these two small clinics cannot serve the needs of the communities.
“The community is huge and some of the minor things that happen in the districts – both the Seventh and Eighth – there are things that not necessarily mean they have to go into Road Town. If we have an upgraded clinic in the Seventh and Eighth Districts we can solve some of those problems right here and not have to send them to Road Town. Our ambulance have to come to take care of these things,” he added.
The minister also said there are plans to extend the hours of the clinics.
He said the plan for the new facility will be taken to residents in the community, and construction will start sometime next year.
“We have to start pooling our resources so we can attack the health issues,” the minister said.

looking at the body language, ronnie thinks he’s superior
This isn’t funny anymore, every week has its New Fabulous Project. Let us wait and see with what these Honourables will come next week
“oh what a rush”
idea: instead of consructing a new health clinic why not use one of the existing clinics and just add a new wing?
A govt with screwed priorities
So let me get this straight; we are going to add/build/improve a clinic, but we haven’t finished the hospital.
Where is the logic in all of this?
Why not take small bites of the apple instead one big gulp?
We don’t need a new clinic right now! What we need is Nurses/Doctors who show up on time (I was there 2 weeks ago from 8:30, the Doctor came like an hour after and I did not leave from there until minutes to 11!!)…. AND professional front desk staff (can the lady that is there even put a smile on her face for once? She also just drags in when she feels like and literally drags throughout the day…sickening!).
Ralph was right when he says the NDP is rushing. Every week we hear about the launch of a new project and every week we hear we have no money smh
Because Ralph and his bunch did nothing, the NDP finds themselves overwhelmed with issues that need to be addressed forthwith. If I am not mistaken, they are working on completing the hospital. They are also working on bringing home doctors and nurses who are abroad, but because you’ll do not pay attention, you would not know that. If they do not accomplish anything, you’ll will be the same ones complaining at the end of the term. You’ll need to stop being so negative. If they listen to you’ll, they will achieve nothing.
I completely AGREE Anonymous. I’m pretty that the majority of voters think like you and me. Let them keep talking all they want. NDP has to deal with an exaggerate amount of work load/projects due to VIP’s actions, or rather, NON-Actions. Again Anonymous, we got nothing to worry about. Trust me. If Doc and his team continues these efforts, they’ll be back in!
same damn thing am saying choops
mayson finish the darn hospital
Why did you not make this comment to the previous government to finish it? After all, NDP left all the monies there for them to finish it but they squandered it. Just Hush!!
