NDP eighth district candidate Marlon Penn
National Democratic Party (NDP) candidate for the eighth district, Marlon Penn, has noted with concern a flurry of government activities as the Nov. 7 general elections draw closer.
“There was this contract-signing frenzy during these last few weeks before elections. I want to make something clear, I am happy that our people are finally getting opportunities. However, our people should have opportunities all year round, not just two weeks before elections. So I am very concerned with how these contracts were given out. Something is on that Cheese Mark,” Penn said at the NDP rally in Hope Hill on Tuesday.
“It amazes me how we miraculously found money two weeks before elections where we could not find for four years. I find that very interesting. I also ask the question, where are the people of Hope Hill in this flurry of contract-signing?” he ased.
Penn said the people of Hope Hill are ignored by the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) administration.
“People of Hope Hill all you get is empty promises and sweet words every four years. You cannot afford to continue to support a party that does not deliver for you or deliver for this territory,” he said.
The development of a new district council for the eighth district with two Hope Hill residents sitting on this council is one of many plans Penn said he has for the community if elected. He pointed out that the people of Hope Hill have been “ignored too long”.
“The role of the district council is to advise the representative on matters of concern to the district. The council will also generate ideas for a way forward, for many initiatives. We will also have quarterly community meetings to keep you the people of the community informed on what is going on within the district and wider territory,” Penn said.
Other plans announced by Penn include:
* Building a senior citizens facility at Spooner’s Estate.
* Offering subsidized hospice care to seniors and other citizens who need assistance.
* Develop a senior citizen assistance program to assist seniors with day to day chores
* Partner with Youth Empowerment Programme (YEP) and to provide new youth development activities
* Complete recreational centre in Greenland and develop regular sporting programmes for the youth.
* Provide regular bus service to transport youth for the above mentioned youth programmes.

I think none of these parties ndp or vip really dealt with issues at hand and the whole process was about who could make the most noise. Lookin back at the last election it was much the same who say we say them say
while the expats// so call investors in the back groud calling the shots from the ndp sidelines.
The lil bit of fire Marlon had Bevis done put it out. The Sylvester boy aint making no joke in the 8th. Dancia look our for this young Chap he really got energy.
I probably to late now to enter the race. But i will make sure that by next elections i am in.
I can’t sit idle anymore and see how this country is been run.
I’ll be running on the basis of .
1- A new Face lift for the island/waterfront.
2- More affordable electric bill.
3- Land for the people that really need to build.
4- A improve government agencies customer service. Ensuring that everyone gets quality service when dealing with any agency.
5- This is just a few of the things i will be pushing for.
6- AND THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. I need your input on how we can make the BVI the Switzerland of the Caribbean.
