Deloitte BVI Professionals at YEP about to paint the building and interact with the children that attend the summer program

Impact Day is a year-round celebration of Deloitte’s commitment to community involvement and is an opportunity for Deloitte’s people to put their passion, determination, and skills to use for the benefit of our communities.

Impact day is the largest of Deloitte’s community events of the year that involves approximately 50 Deloitte BVI professionals that left behind their laptops, conference calls and emails for 2 days in July to make a difference at the Adina Donovan Home – the (“Home”) for the Elderly and the Youth Empowerment Program (“YEP”).

On  July 19,  Deloitte BVI provided a helping hand to the staff of the Home. The day consisted of assisting the staff with serving lunch and snacks to the residence of the Home, assisted with counting the inventory in the Home’s pantry and stocked the shelves with a new shipment of goods.

In addition, Deloitte professionals sang hymns with the residents of the Home and engaged in conversations about the history of the BVI and life in general.

The residents and staff at the Home expressed their gratitude to Deloitte for their visit while all Deloitte professionals walked away with a sense of accomplishment and pride for their contribution at the Home.

Impact Day 2011 continued on July 22, 2011 at YEP.  After initial words from YEP’s Executive Director, Stacey Mather, Deloitte BVI professionals got their hands dirty with a day full of painting and interaction with the staff and children of YEP.

Throughout the day, the external walls for the building were repainted by Deloitte professionals, while others were involved on the inside teaching different computer skills, assisting in arts and craft and cooking activities with the kids. Deloitte professionals also got their heart rate up as they enjoyed an intense game of soccer with the YEP children on their playing field.

Head of Deloitte’s Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Committee, Mahal de’Castro commented:  ”We all rolled up our sleeves at the Adina Donovan Home and YEP and we feel extremely proud of our contribution at both facilities.  We applaud the staff at both the home and YEP for a job well done and look forward to continuing to help out in whatever way we can.”

For the past few years Deloitte BVI also volunteers and assists the Family Support Network (FSN) by donating monies monthly to single mothers in need of financial assistance.

In addition Deloitte has been actively involved at the Althea Scatliffe Primary School by tutoring/mentoring primary-five students in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.

For the younger students Deloitte sponsors the Althea Scatliffe Primary School culinary program and the Boy’s Choir and participates in the school’s career days.

This year Deloitte BVI plans to incorporate other initiatives to enhance and expand in the community. Deloitte’s community investment is driven by the idea that mobilizing the intellectual capital of their people makes the greatest social impact.

Wish to see more companies getting involved in the community instead of treating staff like crap
