Several workers at Delta Petroleum were awarded for dedication and commitment over the weekend as the company held its Annual Awards Dinner and Dance.
The workers from the Pasea Service Station and those from Pockwood Pond and Virgin Gorda Service Stations are to receive cheques for their dedication to the company. More than $8000 will be paid out to staff today.
Workers and well wishers were given a red carpet welcome at the residence of the Regional General Manager – Bevis Sylvester on Saturday evening.
It was really an evening of a ‘Valentine Love Affair’ as patrons were dressed in red and white to go along with the perfect decorations that adorned the dining area of the immaculate building.
Sylvester brought workers up to date of the plans of the company and discussions held last week with the owner of the company Spiros Milonas.
He told the gathering that the discussions with Milonas were intense, and several initiatives will soon be put in place that will further benefit workers at the company.
“We discussed the company on the whole; where we will be moving to, what strategies that need to put in place, the competitors, how we are going to remain strong and on the cutting edge of the petroleum industry. We discussed, how to ensure that we take care of our staff, including a proper pension scheme for our local staff as the law provides and how we are going to keep our staff motivated in 2011 and beyond. We also spoke about how to keep our programmes in tact, how to deal with our collection issues and how to ensure that the company reigns throughout the region,” Sylvester said.
He added, “the discussions were intense, complex and I am happy to say tonight that I am standing still – I am standing because of the great job JTV has done on the Dey Pon Vibes Show, the advertisements in the media have put us to a level whereby our directors and owners can now say we are a strong company.”
Sylvester said Milonas was very observant throughout his visit and had words of commendation for the workers as they executed their duties in the various departments. He said there are many plans in store for the development of the company.
He advised the workers of a staff meeting to be held this week to address how the company is currently organised and to share more of the decisions from his discussions with Milonas.
Sylvester said that during the visit Milonas held talks with Premier Ralph O’Neal, the BVI Electricity Corporation, lawyers for the company and key customers in the company.
