L-R Sylvester, Regional Organisational Manager (ROM) Chaunci Cline, Acting Island Manager Andrew Vasconcellos, Mickaila Newman and her grandmother

During the Range Rover drawing, eyes and ears of all ages were listening and watching to find out who the lucky winner would be of the 2010 Range Rover Sport.

Mickaila Newman, 11 years of age, was also watching closely because she dreamt that her grandmother would be the winner.

Although her grandmother did not win, she still wrote a letter to the Regional General Manager of Delta Petroleum to express her thanks for a job well done and for giving back to the community.

After being personally touched by Newman’s letter, the Regional General Manager Bevis Sylvester, wanted to meet her, but no contact information was available in the letter.

Some three months later, Newman approached Sylvester while at the BVI High School Sports Day.  During a private conversation with her and her grandmother, she stated that her dream was to one day see the Regional General Manager’s office and to work for Delta Petroleum.  Sylvester promised to make her dreams come true.

On Tuesday, April 12, 2011, Mickaila and her grandmother visited Delta Petroleum offices where Sylvester spent time learning more about her and sharing wise tips for success.  In addition, Delta Petroleum presented her with a check in the amount of One Hundred Dollars to assist in purchasing school related items.

The Regional General Manager stated, “I am pleased that a young person recognizes Delta’s effort and commitment to community enhancement.  The Bible teaches that the children will lead the way and this inspires me to do more for children and families in the coming months.”

He also committed to adopting and mentoring Mickaila throughout her primary and high school years as one of Delta’s Shining Stars.

Further, Newman was invited to attend the upcoming “Bust Your Kite: Fly Your Kite Promotion, which will take place on April 29, 2011 adjacent to the Cruise Ship Pier.

I think the Company should have given her something more substantial. Like a laptop or sponsor her for the rest of her school.

          Just Shut Up!
People like you just contribute to the continuous negativity in this country! Someone does good and before you commend the young girl with such positive attributes, you try to bring down someone she obviously looks up to for what? You gotta be Kidding!

@Interesting, You can not say job well done, you have to come up with something negative. It is obvious you did not read the article about what she is getting, only the amount on the check you read? PLEASEEEEE

@Interesting, Please be grateful for small mercies. Is it yours to give? You should not have made that comment.

Bevis and Delta, Kudos to you!!! All of God’s blessings are wished for young Mickaila and her grandmother as well. Mackaila is a leader in the making and I’m pleased to see that Delta/Bevis has taken her under their wings. Keep up the good works!

This was a nice gesture, Bevis. Mickaila really does love DP. She talks about them all the time. SHe was so excited that she met you Bevis, that she talked about it all day. She showed everyone her check.

This child really likes your company. She knows the songs and thinks that your company does a lot for the customers and community. Thanks for making this little girl soooo happy. Job Well Done.

Its the little things that matter.
