A wedding in the sky

“The sky is the limit,” says young BVI entrepreneur and owner of Dinner in the Sky (DITS) Caribbean, Mervin Charles, at the launching of his company’s innovative product line, Dinner in the Sky and Marriage in the Sky.

Headquartered in the British Virgin Islands, MTC Global marketing was incorporated in 2005 with the goal of bringing new and exciting products to the Caribbean market.

Through its group of companies, including DITS Leasing, it has succeeded in becoming the exclusive Caribbean owner of all Events in the Sky products including Dinner in the Sky, Lounge in the Sky and a global exclusive on Marriage in the Sky.

A dinner in the sky

Dinner in the Sky originated in Belgium in 2006.  Today it is found in some of the world’s favorite cities, from Toronto to Dubai.  It was named by Forbes.com as one of the 10 most unusual restaurants in the world and now Dinner in the Sky has made its way to the Caribbean skys.  “We are inviting new investors to join us in our quest to bring this exceptional experience to the Caribbean skies,” says Charles.

Dinner in the Sky is a high-flying dining experience for up to 22 guests securely strapped in seats attached to a dining table. The table has a “prep” space in the centre where up to five service personnel prepare and distribute an astonishing meal. The table and seats are connected to a crane which carries the guests up to 180 feet above the ground.

It’s almost like being strapped into a luxurious roller coaster seat.  Feet can rest on a small platform but brave diners will be comfortable with letting their feet dangle. The smooth ascent to the top is slow but noticeable, and then diners just relax and enjoy their meal among the angels.  Guests watch the chefs, who wear harnesses and are tethered to the table, as they prepare the event’s meal.

Charles explained, “Anyone can hire Dinner in the Sky for an event that lasts a few hours but the memories last a life time.  This dining experience is ideal for special events such as anniversaries, birthday dinners, weddings, corporate events, wine tastings, and any other occasions when someone is looking to achieve the “wow” factor.”

The platform can be transformed into a fully equipped, state-of-the-art business and corporate entertainment facility 180 feet in the air, with the ability to host conferences, confidential board meetings, press briefings, training sessions or motivational speeches.

Charles envisions clients with a reserved table jetting in for lunch around noon followed by sunset cocktails and dinner under the stars and be back home just in time to put the kids to bed. Charles knows this may sound like a dream to some but he thinks that a powerful differentiator is everything in the business of Tourism.

Marriage in the Sky Charles explained, is the most exciting thing the company has to offer the Caribbean. Marriage in the Sky offers a wedding ceremony hosted on a platform where 20 guests are strapped in seats, suspended at a height of 180 feet above the ground.

It is the celebration of love where couples and their guests can almost touch the heavens.  The chapel in the sky brings everyone closer to the angels.

Charles says, “It is a unique event meant for couples who wish to transform an ordinary wedding into a magical moment that will leave them, their witnesses, families and friends with an unforgettable memory.”  This was indeed evident from the photos which were presented.  It will add distinctiveness to the niche market of destination weddings and give the Caribbean an edge in that market.

“Our goal is to tap into the wedding destination market from a unique Caribbean location.  Our preference would be to work with a Government that will be happy to have us operate on island and is willing to shatter the box and be different. The current trend is that all Caribbean islands seem to be writing articles and circulating print advertisements.  However, the harsh reality is that if we are all doing the same thing, then there is no differentiator – full stop.  Tourism is so much more than sand and sea,” the BVI entrepreneur pointed out.

Charles said that safety is the company’s foremost priority. That is why the table was built according to the German TUV safety norms. This is regarded as one of the toughest safety certification worldwide. Every aspect of the concept from the seatbelt to the type of crane used has been scrutinized and carefully considered to ensure maximum safety for all clients and staff.

In closing, Charles said that he is not necessarily looking for a top Caribbean tourist destination but, he would like to work with those that are serious about getting there. He would like to partner with top resorts to help enhance their clients’ experience, introduce customer loyalty programs, generate new business, dazzle guests and secure new relationships through repeat clients.

Charles is inviting investors and interested persons who want to learn more about Dinner in the Sky Caribbean to discuss how best, together they can facilitate such an exclusive Caribbean product that holds true to the words, the Sky is the Limit.
