The matter involving Shawn Scatliffe who is accused of turning up to his ex-girlfriend’s apartment with a knife and assaulting her, was yesterday, March 27 adjourned to May 16.
During a previous court appearance, Scatliffe pleaded not guilty to criminal damage , assault occasioning actual bodily harm, criminal trespass, and being armed with an offensive weapon.
It was disclosed that the virtual complainant (VC) is a student of the H. Lavity Stoutt Community and had an intimate relationship with Scatliffe, which ended last year.
The court heard that the VC arrived home on the night in question and locked the door to her apartment. She allegedly went to her bedroom and was speaking to someone on her cellular phone when she heard a noise outside. However, within seconds, she saw Scatliffe standing over her with a knife in his hands.
Scatliffe questioned the complainant about who she was speaking to on the phone and began to choke her, and placed the knife against her throat.
It is alleged that he threatened to kill the VC and stabbed the mattress with the knife. She allegedly struggled with the defendant who allegedly pulled her off the bed and kicked her in the stomach. During this time, the complainant’s phone rang and Scatliffe answered and threatened the person on the other end. He then threw the phone onto the floor and it broke into two pieces.
An unidentified person placed a call to the East End Police Station to report that the defendant was at the complainant’s home and was allegedly beating her.
Scatliffe allegedly ran out of the apartment into the bushes when he heard the police were on their way. He was later found by police and arrested.
The defendant was granted bail in the sum of $25,000 signed with one surety and ordered to stay away from the VC.

That boy got serious problems.
One young lady recently killed by a jealous ex-boyfriend, this guy on bail and another awaiting sentencing for stabbing his ex, another coming up for parole for killing his woman. I could create a substantial list of these abusive and sometimes murderous acts committed by men here in this country. When are the courts going to start treating these crimes as serious and locking these boys up? When are the men of this community going to start being men and recognizing that women are not posessions for them to control or use at their whim? If our society continues to condone their actions then women will continue to be victims to men.
