First District Representative Andrew Fahie is satisfied with the works being done by the Ministry of Natural Resources to address the problems at Smugglers Cove.
Speaking on NDP Radio just over a week ago, Natural Resources Minister Dr. Kedrick Pickering said government is currently awaiting drawings and plans for a vending area for Smugglers Cove Beach and vendors will return to the beach under better supervision and rules.
During the programme a caller spoke about the absence of vendors and the impact it was having on visitors to the beach.
The First District representative advised his constituents that the matter is being addressed in their best interest.
He said: “I am pleased to report to my people of the First District that there is significant progress being made on finding a solution in the overall Smugglers Cove issue. I must publicly thank the Minister Dr. Kedrick Pickering whose ministry the subject is housed for extending professional courtesies thus far to me as the First District representative, thereby allowing us to have a united front thus far in addressing this issue in the best interest of the people of the First District and the entire territory.
“We continue to have meetings with all the relevant government agencies; through this course of action, a comprehensive plan for the area has been developed, as was the case in the Carrot Bay Development Project. I requested of the Ministry of Natural Resources to have a public meeting in the First District so that the people and the territory can be given the opportunity to give their input on the future plans for the Smugglers Cove area; this request was met with favour and this meeting will be in the near future.”
Earlier this year, the Department of Trade wrote the vendors instructing them to move from the beach, citing infractions.

Nice to show your appreciation Minister Fahie. But never fear NDP is always there. Great job NDP and keep up the good works.
