Excitement is mounting in the British Virgin Islands as we count down to the installation on 30th June 2012 of Rotarian Vance Lewis, as the first District Governor from the British Virgin Islands in the Territory’s 44 year history of Rotary.
Elected at the 2010 Rotary District Conference in Jamaica, District Governor Elect (DGE) Vance will provide the leadership and direction for District 7020 for the Rotary Year 2012-2013 starting 1st July 2012. District 7020 includes 10 countries, 82 clubs and about 2600 members.
Several Senior Rotary District leaders including Past District Governors will be at this auspicious event to be held at Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS), Virgin Gorda. This will include Past Rotary International Director, Barry Rassin as the key note speaker and 2011-2012 District Governor Theodore Guy who will conduct the installation. Several BVI dignitaries, members of the Family of Rotary from both the British and US Virgin islands and supporters will also be at this historic occasion.
Along with the installation of DGE Vance as District Governor, the BVI Presidents, Sam Welch, Rotary Club of Tortola; Trefor Grant, Rotary Club of Road Town; Allison Flax, Rotary Sunrise, as well as Assistant Governor Ron Potter will be installed. Presidents and Assistant Governors of the US Virgin Islands will also be installed.
For the past two years DGE Vance and other District Governors Elect from across the globe have been undergoing intensive training for their awesome responsibilities. For DGE Vance and others this included Zone Membership, Foundation and Image Building Training in 2009, 2010 and 2012, Zone Institute Training in 2010 and 2011, and International Assembly in 2012. Also in preparation for the work ahead in 2011 DGE Vance selected his District leadership team of 80 including 9 Rotarians from the BVI. In February of this year the vast majority of those 80 District Leaders spent an intensive day and a half at the District 7020 Leadership Training in Miami. It was there under the banner of 2012-2013 Rotary International President, Sakuji Tanaka’s Theme “Peace Through Service” that DGE Vance outlined his goals as District Governor.
In addition to the leadership training and networking that took place, participants were privileged to a preview of the Rotary District 7020 promotional video for District Conference 2013 to be held in the British Virgin Islands. According to DGE Vance “This conference promises to be memorable and will be another historic event for the British Virgin Islands with approximately 500 – 650 participants”.
Very best wishes are extended to DGE Vance from across District 7020 as he assumes his position of District Governor 2012-2013.
Rotarians and members of the general public interested in being a part of this historic occasion can contact any of the current or Incoming Presidents of the British Virgin Islands for tickets.
