The guilt or innocence of rape accused Franklyn Huggins may be known today as jurors will deliberate later Monday morning after taking instructions from Judge Indra Hariprashad-Charles.
Huggins is accused of raping his girlfriend’s daughter at the couple’s home AT Soldier’s Hill on January 21, 2007. The virtual complainant was 15 at the time when the alleged rape occurred, while Huggins was 49.
The trial, which began on June 16 in the High Court, heard the testimony of the virtual complainant (VC) giving her account of what happened on that fateful day. She said Huggins invited her to his bedroom where he showed her a porn movie.
According to the VC, the couple in the movie was engaged in oral sex and the defendant told her he could make her feel like that. Feeling uncomfortable the VC left the bedroom and entered into hers. It was then Huggins is said to have entered the VC’s room clad in only his underwear.
It is alleged that he forcibly opened the VC’s leg and penetrated her. The VC said the act occurred for about 20 to 30 seconds. She also claimed Huggins touched her breasts.
Meanwhile, in his defense Huggins stated he only showed the VC the porn movie after he learned that she was intimate with a married man. He stated he wanted to know if the VC knew what oral sex was.
He denied touching the VC, and in a police report admitted to smelling the VC. However, on Friday, June 18, 2010 he rebuffed that claim saying he never told the police that.
Huggins, 53, is currently on bail and is represented by Mary Lou-Creque.
Senior Crown Counsel Tiffany Scatliffe and Crown Counsel Valston Graham prosecuted appear for the crown.
