The staff at the Immigration Department at the different ports of entry is not happy with their working conditions as it relates to health and safety and they need this to be addressed urgently.
As stated in the 2011 report, there is overcrowding in the arrival area of several ports of entry, with the most chronic being the Road Town Ferry Terminal, West End Ferry Terminal and Virgin Gorda Marina.
The report said that even at the TB Lettsome International Airport, when two large planes land around the same time, the passenger queue often extends outside the terminal building.
The report said as the ports are generally open without air condition, officers are frequently exposed to fumes and noise pollution from arriving boats and aircraft also; the openness of some of the ports also presents a security risk as the physical barriers that would restrict unauthorized access are inadequate.
The report said that the openness of the ports also encourages an additional health risk in the presence of mosquitoes, especially at the TB Lettsome International which is located near the pond.
The lack of holding cells at the ports of entry compromises security as immigration officers are unable to secure criminal or disorderly passengers from the rest of the arrivals.

Maybe some of them need to stay in those working conditions till they learn how to be pleasant to visitors. Some of those in town behind the desks needs to be transferred out so they can go through some discomfort as well. They too rude and have no manners. Treat outsiders like dogs when they go to re-new permitt and ask for time. You can say no in a nice way but I keep saying they lack training..from the chief down..
One look at their faces and their stinking attitude we can tell they are” not happy”
That’s all he reason to extend the runway. With this will come an extension to the present terminal to handle capacity possibly incorporating a comfortable arrival section and a proper facility to host a security office for ports police including holding cells among other plans. It would be ludacris to prepare the BVi for the 22nd century without these mandatory facilities for health and safety and moving from a landing strip to a proper international standard airport.
And then the customers are the ones pay for this STUP .
dont forget the monies was tief for airport the last time
Dem keep spending millions on tourism why not spend some on immigration the supposed to be first impressionist to encounter when entering the VI. legally that is. Hmmm
Wait until 180 passengers disembark from a 4 hr plane ride. LOL
is this the reason why there’s no smiles on their faces?
And we REALLY WANT TO EXTEND THE RUNWAY??? Right!!!
