Islanders clinched their successive league crown on Saturday with a professional 3-0 win over the Panthers.
It is an incredible achievement and caps an impressive season for the Islanders team who made the final of the Wendol Williams Cup and will defend their Terry Evans Cup crown next month.

Islanders 3 – 0 Panthers
The first game of the weekend gave the Islanders the opportunity to clinch their second league title in as many years as they faced a Panthers side keen to spoil the party. It was to be Islanders’ day though as their in-form strike partnership simply had too much for the Panthers defence.
The confidence was flowing through the Islanders team straight from the kick off and their simple one touch football left the Panthers struggling to get near them. The flowing football paid dividends in the 40th minute when arguably one of the players of the season, Henroy Mitchell, latched onto a through ball to coolly slot home. It was the perfect time to score, just before the break, and something the Islanders possession had more than warranted.
The performance continued in the second half when almost straight from the off Henroy Mitchell doubled his and the Islanders tally for the match with a superb solo effort in the 47th minute. All that was left was for strike partner Odaine Johnson to get in on the action and he didn’t disappoint. With 20 minutes remaining Johnson got beyond the Panthers back line and fired past the Panthers keeper to put the cherry on yet another excellent performance. The win was somewhat subdued when Fitzory Daley was given his marching orders for throwing an elbow with only 9 minutes remaining. However it couldn’t take the gloss off a title winning performance that leaves the Islanders out of reach of the chasing pack.

Wolues 1 – 1 Sugar Boys
The Wolues good start to the year continued on Sunday with a battling performance to earn a point against second place Sugar Boys despite only having 8 players. Sporting an unorthodox 3-3-1 formation the Wolues got off to the best possible start when Ben Drummond struck an incredible 35 yard belter in the 7th minute giving the Sugar Boys keeper no chance.
The 8 man Wolues dug in and looked to be comfortable, soaking up the expected pressure from the Sugar Boys whose away form has seen them struggle to gain ground on the Islanders. It was the fitness that was the Wolues eventual downfall though. Playing on the counter attack and hoping for an additional piece of individual brilliance was taking its toll on the Wolues and Terry Baptiste was on hand to take advantage. With the Wolues defence tiring Baptiste stole in and slotted home on the angle in the 51st minute to draw Sugar Boys level. The Wolues dug in and were able to hold on for a valuable point as they fight to march up the table.
Old Madrid 2 – 2 Lucian Stars
Arguably the most entertaining game of the weekend saw bottom of the table Old Madrid and the in-form Lucian Stars battle on Sunday afternoon. What was expected to be a comfortable victory for Lucian Stars was anything but that after a fine display from Old Madrid. Lucian Stars took the lead in the 17th minute when Alvin St. Ville headed powerfully home from a superb cross from the right. Old Madrid were not to be deterred though and fought back when Kenmore Peters struck in the 33rd minute with a fine strike after some good work by the Old Madrid midfield.
Into the second half and the teams were very evenly matched with plenty of good football and a number of opportunities arising at both ends. It was Old Madrid who seized the initiative though when 7 minutes into the second half Franklyn James nipped in and prodded home to give Old Madrid the lead. The lead only last 2 minutes though as Lucian Stars had the perfect response when that man Alvin St Ville rose again 9 minutes into the second half to put the Lucian Stars back on level terms. Despite both teams having chances at either end to take all 3 points neither could find that final ball and the game ended in a justified point for both teams.
