Queen Sharia

The judges’ decision is final but from all indications all are in agreement that contestant number five Sharie de Castro earned the crown, new car and other prizes she will receive as the newly crowned Miss British Virgin Islands.

De Castro, who at a previous event, quipped about her stature by saying “big things come in small packages,” demonstrated just that when she wowed the audience and judges with her smile, style and intellect.

The young lady outshone her fellow Contestants Lavanta Thompson, Michelle Parsons, Latoya Donovan, and Ana John, in areas such as talent, and was given the prize for that category.

For her talent De Castro did a spoken word piece depicting the Wizard of OZ with symbolism of the BVI. She then played the violin and explained the true compensations educators in the territory receive.

The 2012 Queen was also awarded the prizes for Miss Congeniality, People’s Choice, Miss Poise, Best BVI Promo, Best Interview, and Miss Intellect.

In addition to the car, De Castro will receive a $5,000 wardrobe, a scholarship, a trip with the BVI Tourist Board, and a trip to Miss Universe.

Other prizes were awarded to first runner-up and contestant number four Ana John for Best Swimwear, Best Cultural and Historical Costume, Best Evening Wear, and Miss Photogenic.

Contestant number two was named the second runner-up.

The Miss BVI 2012/2013 pageant was held on August 5 at the Multipurpose Sports Complex, under the theme ‘Bringing Back Our Cultural Past, Let’s Celebrate BVI Festival with Class’.

The host of the evening was Trefor Grant and Rachel Price.

Sharie, is a wonderful young lady. I pray that God will continue to mold her into that beautiful flower that lies within her. May you always prosper and excel throughout life. During the last troupe Sharie and her two friends took the street on feet and walked around greeting everyone, even if she didnot know them. I was really amazed, this is what you call a true queen. Special young lady, I love her and I personally will encourage her all the way. Sharie keep up the excellent spirit, I will be praying for you. I love you, keep on smiling donot let nothing discourage you. Aunty J got your back all the way. Love You my Queen

Ana you did well. Your army of chaperones did you well. But I hope dem realize this trend. Dem come with a bang but the one ting dem cant buy or type up on a paper for their girl to memorize is INTELLECT! 2nd year in a row now eh? This army of chaperones for one girl alone might be talented and know dem stuff but it would be nice to see dem choose or tek on a girl who is the underdog and make a queen outta she instead. Dem always latching on or waiting for the top dog to approach dem. Good for you Sharie. You showed everyone ain the size of the dog but how hard it bite. Make us proud and enjoy your reign. You buss up de place last night!

I think she shorted on intellect on a whole and that was her downfall. I’ve observed #4 during that spotlight interview on tv and all I coulda do was shake my head. Yes she had spunk and personality but I saw right through that as she couldn’t deliver a well thought out answer. She would just ramble or say “you know you know” No we don’t know, answer the question! I’m sure the judges saw straight through that as well. ah sah.

Congratulations to our queen! WELL DESERVED!!! No one can argue that! I’m so proud of Sharie. INTELLECT goes a long way and that is one thing that no chaperone can coach a girl on. You either have it or you don’t! Sharie did an amazing job and well represent our country well. Thank you judges for getting this right! Also thanks to jtv for the live streaming. You too did an amazing job!
