BVI Junior Basketball Team

LIME, a champion of youth and sports in the BVI, announced today that it was extending its support of youth sports around the BVI by becoming a sponsor of BVI/USVI Biddy Basketball Tournament, one of the most successful basketball organizations in BVI.

The tournament, hosted in the BVI for the second time since 2007, begins two exciting days of youth in action with participating teams from St. Croix, last year’s tournament champions, St. Thomas and St. John.

The action begins Friday, June 24, 2011, at 7:30 pm in the multi-purpose sports complex and ends Saturday, June 25, 2011 when the final game played will determine the 2011 League Champions.

The BVI team missed winning last year’s championship by 2 points against St. Croix, in what was a thrilling game from start to finish. As sponsors of the two-day tournament, LIME promises fun and games to entertain all attendees with prizes for special fun designed just for the viewing audience during the tournament.

The partnership covers outfitting the teams playing in the tournament and providing a home court for the BVI BD Basketball organization for practice sessions.

LIME has extended an invitation to the organization the use of its Sports Club facilities in Palestina to ensure the youth have an appropriate and available court for their use.

This venue offers the youth a “home” base to practice the fundamentals of the game and an opportunity for fund raising initiatives to support the club. The BVI BD Basketball organization was first started by Roy “Yellow” Garraway and Kennedy Bass in 2007.

The first tournament was held in Tortola in 2007 with teams from Virgin Gorda, St. Thomas, St. Croix and Tortola.  St. Croix was crowned CHAMPS and Deon Edwin (BVI) was named Most Outstanding Player (MOP).

The second year the games were hosted in St. Croix in 2008, with participating teams from BVI, St. John, St. Thomas and St. Croix.  St. Croix retained the title of CHAMPS.

In 2010, the 3rd tournament was held in St. Thomas, again with teams from St. Croix, St. John, Tortola and St. Thomas.  St. Croix, for the 3rd time in a row, once again was proclaimed the CHAMPIONS, with BVIslander Kimron Telemaque, winning the MOP of the tournament.

As part of its continued investment for the betterment of the BVI community, LIME has always had a great affinity with sports and this sponsorship of young athletes across the territory extends its support of basketball.

LIME looks forward to a successful season and wishes BD Basketball club the best of luck.
