Easter interns at Rosewood Little Dix Bay

Tuesday, April 10, 2012 – Rosewood Little Dix Bay in partnership with the The British Virgin Islands Tourist Board has once again welcomed five high school students in an effort to offer them the opportunity to gain valuable work experience at the resort during their Easter holiday break.

The BVI Tourist Board has traditionally partnered with key players in the tourism industry such as Rosewood Little Dix Bay in the implementation of their school tourism initiatives. Hadassah Ward, Director of Tourism at the BVI Tourist Board, in a letter to the industry partners asked for their participation and said she was pleased to share with them an important component of the BVI Tourist Boards year-round Tourism Education Programme namely the “Tourism Work Experience Initiative.”

The initiative is designed to offer valuable on the-job training and experience to high school students between the ages of 15-17 years who have demonstrated a strong interest in pursuing a career in tourism and hospitality.

The students, Ariq Clarke, Jacara Harrigan, Chrystal Harry-Clarke, Alondra Ephraim and Cristhofer Santana, all from the Bregado Flax Educational Centre in Virgin Gorda, were welcomed to the resort by Ms. Dieon Fowles, Training Manager at Rosewood Little Dix Bay.

Ms. Fowles, in her presentation, outlined the history of the resort, the vision and mission as well as introducing them to the philosophy behind the ultra luxury brand. She highlighted the critical importance of exceptional customer service and spoke to them about the career opportunities within the tourism and hospitality industry.  She highlighted the fact that it is not limited to housekeeping and food and beverage but that there are many more options to choose from.

“We hope that this experience will inspire the students and expose them to the multitude of career opportunities within the hospitality industry,” she said.

Director of Human Resources at Rosewood Little Dix Bay, Sharon Flax Mars, explained that the resort continues to welcome students from the community for internships in order to enable them to discover and become familiar with what it takes to run a luxury resort and to experience first-hand the vital tasks performed each day by staff members.

She said that the students were selected based upon their request and preferences as it relates to their future career plans.

“We at Rosewood Little Dix Bay are proud to be able to support the students in their effort to search for a career that they are passionate about. We offer them the opportunity to build their skill set while being able to learn from the experience of highly successful veterans in the hospitality field,” Flax Mars said.
