Alvera Maduro-Caines
Alvera Maduro-Caines has declared that she “will become the next representative of the sixth district” and elevate her people from the level of second-class citizens, as the time has come for “a strong woman” to take over the reigns of leadership in the district.
“I hear the cry of my people and I see the need for proper representation,” she told scores of National Democratic Party supporters on Thursday night at a district rally. “You have had a man for 32 years, give a woman a chance.”
Maduro-Caines refuted claims that she was too soft and would likely end up as a backbencher in the House of Assembly if elected. To this she said she is part of a team of people that will support her regardless of her seat in the House.
“I will be working with a team where no district will be left behind. No one will be left behind. We as a party do not discriminate as some may want to make you think,” she said.
“Sometimes the soft and quiet person makes the most respected and effective leaders. I do not have to be loud and rambunctious to get the job done,” she said, pointing to several instances when her soft voice has caused the present representative to pull up his socks and get things done for the district.
She said she aims for a better district for all residents and lauded the efforts of Minister Omar Hodge who has managed to produce an upgraded basketball court, pave roads, refurbish benches on the road side, and the cleaning up of the Purcell community center, among others, within the past few weeks.
“Have we ever wondered since these projects were done in a couple of weeks before election why they were not done three years before election? It makes one wonder if this is just another political gimmick to try and attract votes,” she said.
Addressing rumors that she was against the establishment of the Purcell Community Center, Alvera Maduro-Caines said, “I refute these allegations right here and right now.”
She pointed to records which she said will show that the property on which the community center now sits was actually purchased under the NDP administration while the current representative was in the opposition.
“I am happy Purcell now has a community center, for I often say the people of this district lack recreational facilities,” she said, as she made a strong call for it to be named after Catharine and Gertrude Warner – “two stalwarts of the district who sold and leased land to the people at low rates so they could afford to build homes.”
Maduro said she has never claimed to be perfect, but still will not stoop to certain levels in the name of attaining power.
Among her long list of plans for the district when elected to office, Maduro-Caines said she would improve on projects and activities already in place. “I feel our district deserves much more than we have today.”
Alleviating traffic flow from certain areas is also on top of her list, as is establishing alternative entry and exit points within the community, making it easier for emergency service vehicles to have easy access in and out of the community.
“My team and I will seek to address this very expensive ghut that seems to have gotten worse after phase one and two were completed. Now phase three has begun which has caused much inconvenience to residents. I have been informed that no dialogue were had with the people of this community about this project, yet millions continue to be spent on it,” she said.
Some $6 million was already spent on the ghut project according to Maduro and she said she is puzzled as to how much more it will cost, and in how many more phases.
“I want this project to be completed so that the residents in the Purcell area… will not have to be plagued with flooding, erosion of land and flattening of retaining walls whenever there is heavy rain,” she said.
To achieve this, she said the entire NDP team would work closely with engineers to finally put a cap on the project and the issues once and for all.
Further, she cited her vision for the construction of parks throughout the district and declared “this will be done in the district”, as will “cleanup days” be established and an employment drive to empower the youths.
“We the residents must shoulder some of the responsibilities…” she noted.

ms caines seems to be a go-getter
the sixth district needs a change… but the choices are not good
@ “el” …the only candidate you can say is not a good choice is the one who has proven himself to be no good for the district. How would you know how good Alvera is if she is not given a chance? Your statement is like a judgement on a closed book….you haven’t opened the book or even turned a page and the only way you can do that is to elect Alvera. Your vote is your power…if you feel she has not done her job after 4 years then don’t vote her back in. That is the power of your vote. It seems like voters don’t understand what their right to vote means. If you have to keep voting in and out to find the right fit for your district and country then by all means do that, but don’t just sit around passing judgement on what you can’t possibly know or prove. And for heaven’s sake, don’t sit around complaining if you vote for the one who has proven to be the wrong choice or if you don’t vote at all. voters need to use the brain and conscience that God gave them.
AMEN!!!!!!!
yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh you go girl i’ proud of you, youv’e got my XXXXX

She need to first learn how to spell coleslaw. Day after day she post her menu on fb and she continue to spell coleslaw as cold slaw. like really!!! and this is who you guys want to run your district..smh
I bet you buy and eat it tho..the food you are talking about is cabbage and carrot greated and mixed together with mayo and is put in the fridge. A fridge is a place where food items and drinks are kept cold. There this is a food that needs to be kept cold making her right with her spelling..it is cold slaw and not cole slaw. Do you know what is cole? You just like VIP Stupidist them..I guess you aint see his spelling on proyects? but you on here talking piss and dont know how to spell yourself..
That comment had me cracking up! Yes it is cold but The word is COLESLAW. You really should not be insulting people like that when your lack of knowledge is blatant. I suggest you check the spelling in the dictionary.
“She need to first lean how to spell coleslaw.” Sometimes I just shake my head in bewilderment at the foolishness of you people. How come there was no ‘learning to spell from you Mr/Ms. Hmm with ‘PROYECTS” If you want to vote for Omar with his PROYECTS, then do so, but don’t dictate for us who will vote for Alvera with her ‘COLD SLAW’
To really: You Check the meaning of Cole in the dictionary. It does not make reference to any food (smarty). I dont know who died and made you Einstein.
You people are so petty
vip loyalist your ignorance is really appreciated here. it shows us all who have common sense what not to be like. Omar done geh beat soooo long…..he probly home looking for some a da medicine michael jackson overdose on to ease the pain of his defeat that is yet to come…..the name of the medicine is propofol…..but he using properfool……EAT ALVERA DUST VIP…..
