MALONE HANDPICKED: BVI returns to Miss World stage after 12 years away

The British Virgin Islands (BVI) has earned the right to return to the Miss World stage after spending 12 years away from the major international beauty pageant.

The local Miss World Committee announced last evening that Kirtis Kassandra Malone has been handpicked to represent the territory at the event to be held in Indonesia on September 28.

Malone, who is described as beautiful and talented, was selected without a national competition.

The Committee has attributed that to timing. “Due to time restraints, we were unable to produce a National final showcasing our contestants,” it said.

The Committee however noted that a final competition is to be held locally next year, adding that applications can be obtained from members of the Committee.

It also expressed confidence in Malone’s abilities. “Miss Malone was chosen based on specific qualities that exemplify a representative suited for the Miss World pageant…  Kassandra joins a group of strong, generous women who strive to better the lives of others, especially the less fortunate around the world.”

The Committee also noted that, with humanitarianism and philanthropy being the primary aim of the Miss World pageant, contestants are world ambassadors and role models, giving much of their time and talent to noble causes.

In relation to the BVI’s return to the prestigious event, the Committee said it is a privilege. “The British Virgin Islands has not had a representative on this world stage in over 12 years. The Miss World BVI Committee has acquired the franchise license from the Miss World organization changing that fact for the 2013 pageant season. It is a privilege to welcome back Miss World to the shores of the Virgin Islands.”

The Committee also urged the territory to throw its support behind the efforts being made locally. “The Miss World BVI committee welcomes the support of the BVI community through their prayers, encouragement and sponsorship, which will help to solidify our return to this global stage.”

Core members of the Miss World BVI Committee are Charisse Thomas, Violet Gaul, Shirley Creque, Damion Grange and Buddha Mather (official photographer).

The Miss World pageant, which is the longest serving major international beauty pageant, was created in the United Kingdom by Eric Morley in 1951.

Due to its astonishing ratings of approximately 2 billion viewers annually, Miss World reportedly was identified as drawing the most hits to its website in 2012.

Its success has opened the doors for many Caribbean islands, including the neighboring US Virgin Islands, to capitalize on promoting the diversity in culture and tourism opportunities throughout the region.

This is not right at all. Has she been a queen before. Ms. BVI should have attended and if it was too much for her then, the first runner up in the Ms. BVI show should have been considered. We need to be fair in our dealings. Not a good decision at all.

Ok it obvious that ya’ll people ignorant as hell! One minute you want another show then next you don’t have of you don’t even have confidence in our own all you can do is bad talk them but you all can rally behind someone who aint from here right?! GET IT TOGETHER if you all didn’t know Miss BVI is actually Miss BVI Universe! Not Miss BVI World. It obvious that they ae working with someone they been working with. Miss World is going to Bali just know and Miss Universe getting ready for Moscow! for all you all know she might have said she didn’t want to and convince her to do it. YOU ALL are not part of what goes on behind the seen all of you need to grow up and rally behind the young ladies that are representing the BVI and for who never worked with an international franchise it clearly states that is a pageant cannot be held they have all right to delegate a person of their CHOICE to represent the country!

I am pleased to see we have someone to represent us; but, in all honesty this young lady will see people on the street and not even return greetings and salutations if someone says good morning or good afternoon. Beauty is more than a pretty face and a decent voice. It’s my personal opinion that the committee made a poor choice in choosing an Ambassador to represent us. Our Ambassador should be someone who is beautiful inside and out.

She has won Miss 5th form and Miss HallJackson. Now little one, it is quite evident that you you cannot see the difference in caliber of these shows. I am not doubting her ability as a performer, it is her attitude that needs some readjustment. Anyone representing the country should be one who we call all be proud of, not someone who is only for a select few. She isn’t a people’s person (PLAIN AND SIMPLE). She is going on our behalf so I hope she represents well.

She is beautiful inside and out! I refuse to believe that even if you tell her morning etc she would just walk on by and not reply!hmmmm y’all gonna find every negative in the book! Not even a positive word for the young lady! The made an excellent choice! You go out there and rep your country girl even though they ain’t. Repping you!

CLEARLY , IF TIME DID NOT PERMIT THE COMMITTEE TO HOLD A SHOW, THE 1ST RUNNER UP FROM MISS BVI SHOULD HAVE REPRESENTED THE BVI, SINCE MISS BVI WILL REPRESENT AT THE MISS UNIVERSE PAGEANT….

It’s their committee and they choose who the hell they want. What’s the problem? This is Mrs. World BVI committee choosing someone to represent us at Mrs. World. The Ms BVI will represent at Ms Universe. What’s the problem? This young lady is beautiful, talented and will represent us well. Good luck. Find something constructive to talk about. There’s a story about kids being able to visit the UK/France for 2 weeks. Not one fr#$%@ comment but a stupid pageant and all hell broke loose. Ask again why the damn place continue to roll backwards instead of forging forward. Sick petty small-minded stupid people. FOCUS ON THE REAL THINGS!

That is not how you choose someone to represent the country. You have to earn your way up. I always watch these pageant and those girls who enter there dedication is just amazing. Many of them been to Africa and all over the country helping people. Joining a group of striving women is not even enough, nobody knows about that. Had so many years to prepare now they come with a handpick thing…….like really?

You serious? NO CONFIDENCE? HOW ABOUT THEY ACTUALLY HAVE COMMON SENSE NOT TO GET LAUGHED OFF THE STAGE. This is MISS WORLD not a backwater MISS BVI where OBVIOUSLY anybody could win. “CHOSEN BASED ON SPECIFIC QUALITIES THAT EXEMPLIFY A REPRESENTATIVE SUITED FOR MISS WORLD” Ms. DeCastro does not meet these “QUALITIES THAT EXEMPLIFY” and best believe attraction and beauty has a lot to do with it. Come to think of it I don’t think I would even “TAP” Miss BVI just doesn’t do it for me.

Well Look Ting here, before you start criticizing our Wonderful Ms. BVI, first look at the competition in St. Vincent. Obviously she was at a disadvantage there. She wasn’t best friend with people in high places like the winner is. That show was clearly decided prior to the presentation. One person won everything? and of course the representative for the country it was held in was placed.hmmm REALLY You need to control your hate for our Ms BVI and shut up. Maybe you should run for the most ugly personality, most hating, most ignorant, loser’s race. MISS BVI TO THE WORLD!!!!!!

This picture is really nice. This is what needs to be done for the Miss Universe pageant so that the criteria is met fully.
