A new trial date will be fixed soon for the case involving Denny Hodge, the man who got into an altercation with his then pregnant girlfriend and caused her to have placenta-related discomfort.
For now Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards has agreed that the matter be adjourned to April 12 at which time a new trial date will be selected.
The Complainant (now mother of the defendant’s child) was present in court, and it was indicated that she is very interested in having the matter proceed.
Hodge pleaded not guilty on July 6 to the charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
It is alleged that on May 29, 2012 the defendant met with the complainant at the Sobrosa restaurant located on Waterfront to discuss their relationship and the status of their unborn child.
The defendant allegedly asked the complainant to join him in his car so they could be alone. While sitting in the car the conversation got heated and she asked him to get out of the vehicle which he did.
As they were walking their separate ways they began to argue and the defendant walked over to the complainant and pushed her. She retaliated by grabbing his shirt and slapping him.
The defendant grabbed her arm and she tried to kick him off. A struggle ensued which resulted in the complainant falling and while on the ground the defendant held her hands over her head.
She was helped off the ground by friends. However it was stated that the couple continued to argue and the defendant slapped the complainant twice in her face.
The complainant made a report to the police and subsequently went to the Peebles Hospital where it was indicated that complainant who is six months pregnant suffered a small abrasion to the placenta.
The defendant was placed on $10,000 bail and ordered to stay away from the complainant.
