Romance and class seemed to be the overwhelming theme on the curtain-closing night of the 2012 Music Fest.

The ambiance was simply dreamy as persons dressed in island chic fashion converged on the sand and enjoyed the great performances of the Razor Bladez, It’s a Secret, and Reema.

Ouida was amazing last night as she lulled an obviously impressed crowd with some of her soothing original jazz songs. Ouida’s entire performance was enhanced because of the fact that renowned saxophonist and producer Kamau George shared the stage with the uber talented lady.

The songstress’s fans were mesmerised as she soulfully sang some of her new songs and raised some of the older hits such as “When You Love Someone”, and “Magic Within You.” It was a bit humorous when she asked the audience to help her carry some notes and the response was a loud rusty coo. The singer did a beautiful rendition of Rihanna’s “We Found Love.” There was stillness as Ouida blow everyone away with her tribute to Whitney Houston when she sang “I Will Always Love You.”

In between the performances DJ Commodore had the crowd going. Following his request for silence in homage to Whitney Houston, the veteran DJ transformed the beach into a huge dance floor. Groups of people did the electric slide, some danced the “Double Dutch Bus” and on the DJ’s request there was a long soul train line.

Forever Motown, prior to their performance, explained the significant role the Motown Label played in developing some of the best artistes of the era. The group dazzled with well-choreographed moves, mimics of the actual artiste and constant wardrobe changes. The crowd sang and danced as the group raised hits from Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, the Four Tops, Temptations, Gladys Knight, Mary Wells and Marvin Gaye.

Although Melanie Amaro’s time on stage was short, the crowd response was overwhelming. The young singer was emotional as she thanked the people of the BVI for helping her to get to this point and supporting her. She announced from the onset that the music she was going to sing was not hers. Melanie disclosed that she is working on her album and promised that once it is completed the BVI will be her first stop.

She gave a shout out to the Althea Scatliffe Primary School, Alexandrina Maduro and Elmore Stoutt High School (BVI High School). She also spoke fondly of growing up in the church and mentioned the New Testament Church of God and New Life Baptiste Church.

The artiste gave a brief recap of her time on X Factor and even mentioned some of the conversations she has had with Simon. She said that her mother was intent on her auditioning and stated that they slept on a parking lot floor.

Melanie said she was fortunate to meet Whitney Houston two days before she died and recalled the advice that the singer gave her.

Estelle came out and had the crowd going with her song that told everyone that she “was going to do her thing.” Her rendition of Diana Ross’ Can’t Hurry Love” had people dancing in delight. The artiste announced that she came to work out and didn’t expect to see people standing still.

She invited a fellow on stage, sang Bob Marley’s “Is this Love” to him and informed him that he can dance but don’t touch her; the crowd enjoyed the antics that followed.

Estelle really interacted with the crowd and told them a bit about herself which of course made everyone even more attentive. When she sang “Come Over” some persons even whistled. Those who weren’t too familiar with the artiste marvelled at the number of great songs Estelle has and the fact that she loved to dance and took every opportunity to do so. She closed with her hit “American Boy.”

Somebody needs to seriously get Ouida a Stylist. I mean come on, who the hell is watching over this child. The dress is ugly, and on top of that it short, the shoes are atrocious, she had on no makeup. I do not have enough time to touch on the hair and god forbid i get to the blue nail polish. Come on Ouida it’s been a while since you’ve been a Christian, stop dressing like those old women you use to hang with. But on onother note the music was to die for. Thank god cuz she aint had a dam thing other than that going on.

You sound like you have a personal issue with the performer. I saw nothing wrong with her attire. There’s a difference between classy and thrashy and she dresses with style. You can learn a thing or two.

Correction: You should slim down your big fat lips. You bring nothing to any discussion other than negativity. Your constant negative views are simply are turn off. You have plastered this same comment on at least two other sites. What is your problem?!
