The undesirables in the Royal Virgin Islands Police (RVIPF)  have been given the warning today by the new Deputy Police Commissioner David Morris that when they are found they will be rooted out.

The warning comes three weeks after his appointment.

Morris, who was introduced to the media for the first time today by Police Commissioner Reynell Fraser, said since he has been in the territory he has been meeting with officers to find out their concerns. He said he has also been meeting with members of the community.

Morris said the assistance of the community and the media are essential in solving crime in the territory and the community must have that confidence in the officers to give them certain information in solving crime.

The Deputy Police Commissioner says like any other organization there are persons in the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force who can be called undesirables.

He said: “We have people in the RVIPF who are what we would call undesirables. Every organization have people who you don’t want in there; and we have information leakage when we are trying to run operations, so it is important that people feel secure when they come to us with evidence, with information that is not going to get leaked back to the criminals and also to the people that may cause some harm. We need to make sure that we have policies, procedures, processes in place in terms of what I would call combating anti-corruption and that’s making sure that information does not leak out when we are secure, making sure that we don’t have corrupt police officers or civilians working within the organization and that we could protect people who come forward with information.”

Morris said while in the BVI he will be ensuring that these bad apples are rooted out of the force. “Certainly as part of my role while I am here is to make sure we have some strong policies and procedures in place to deal with those types of issues in the service – because we don’t want bad apples in the organization and where we find them we will root them out and we will get rid of them,” the new Deputy Police Commissioner warned.

The deputy referred to a case involving a police officer before his arrival.

He added: “I know there was a court case before my arrival involving a police officer on those types of issues but there are also officers here who have made a bad judgment, whose behavior may not reach the standard required of them as a member of the RVIPF; but that is not corruption – that is just discipline, unprofessional behavior and we need to address that. That’s an issue we need to address – an officers’ behavior; we need to get the members of the public to expect a better service, and to get the officers to understand that their behavior must meet a certain standard; the need to make sure that officers learn from their mistakes.”

Apparently they are living in the age when the VI consisted of the USVI and the BVI. I guess that would be the age of reality.

It seems like ppl in from our country don't like ppl to put their own down, but i have come in contact with many of them from here and outside and i will tell u the attitudes are not good. When you go to the station nobody knows where anyone is and cant give you answers to simple questions. We have a mentality that because we from here nobody should tell us anything and then we want good treatment when we go into a another man's country. Grow up ppl if there is a problem and we are the ones causing it then get rid of them. Point Blank. so to Joemama you must be a stray dog, one must know the other. HA HA. Born and breed in the BVI and sick to be called a BVISlANDER

It is obvious you are not from the bvi and I think it is presumptuous and pompous of you to jump to such conclusions. I keep asking myself all the time, why is it we have to keep accommodating every stray dog then feeding them and they turn on us for our kindness. It is sickening and it disgust me to read this kind of comment from people who we help to grow and then they get this arrogant and try to own us.

You saying people who born here are undesirable to join their own law enforcement agencies, especially the rvipf? I mean really immigration and labour need to do their damn jobs and carefully review the stray animals we let in our midst.

    Don't apologize just leave.

Well, this is news to my ears. I am still trying to get my head around what I just read. There is someone in the RVIPF who is finally going to hold those officers to account you are not living up to the standards we expect of them. It is clear to me that one of the problems why some crimes have gone unsolved in these islands is because you do have these “undesirables” on the force whom the public cannot trust to share any information they have about crime. It's about time the RVIPF clean house, and it's a shame that it took this new hire to address what everyone knows is a problem in the RVIPF.

I wil be Frank with you all and you can go be upset if you want but most if not all of the undesirables in the Police force are locals… not wanting to to prosecute or go against their families… do your research and if you come up with anything else or not supporting what i have just said i will openly in public appologise

    Police Constable
Well what a spark this is what the majority of the force was waiting to hear but nothing was being done the previous SMT accepted mediocrity Commissioner Fraser is part of it and now Morris is the force saviour and everybody knows what going on. The infringment of Officers rights the poor administrative decisions made by the SMT. No one is speaking about the recent judicial review granted to a police officer who was wrongfully revert from acting sergeant to constable by the the commissioner himself a clear violation of the constitution. These sort of things officers are facing daily maladministration by the force. Officers being deprive of annual vacation leave and so on. I hope the New DCP will fix that too.

Well if he is saying that, it means that he already recognized some undesirables, so let us see you start you job in getting rid of them. And if there are really undesirables in the force as you suggest, the question is, What are they still doing there, you are only here for 3 weeks and already recognized undesirables, so what was the Senior Management of the Force was doing all along, i guess sleeping as usual.
