BVI National Culinary Team at a cocktail reception at Mooney Bay

Ocean Conversion (BVI) Ltd., a proud sponsor of The BVI National Culinary Team is thrilled to be able to congratulate the award-winning BVI National Culinary Team for their astounding performance at the 2011 Taste of the Caribbean competition at the Hyatt Regency in Miami.

The team of 9, comprised of Head Coaches Chef Henry Prince, H. Lavity Stoutt Community College, and Caswall Ponte, Rosewood Little Dix Bay; Team Captain Chef Kenneth Molyneaux, Treasure Isle Hotel; Chefs Imran Ashton, Moorings Restaurant, and Jason Dalmida Jr., Bitter End Yacht Club; Junior Chef Mikhala Bagot; Pastry Chefs Ansony Salmon, Peter Island Resort & Spa,

Macgarvey Thompson and Brentfield Lettsome, both of H. Lavity Stoutt Community College; and Bartender Elton Sprauve, Mine Shaft Cafe rounded out the 9.

They were awarded a silver medal for the three-course dinner menu that they created from a pantry of 20 ingredients, a number of mystery ingredients, as well as four ingredients indigenous to each country.

The team were also awarded a Gold medal for Team of Year. The Chef of the Year Award went to Kenneth Molyneaux of Treasure Isle Hotel.

He was also awarded Best Use of Certified Angus Beef.  Mikhala Bagot was awarded the Caribbean Junior Chef of the Year, the Junior Chef Gold Award and was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Bartender Elton Sprauve won a Silver Medal in the Bartender of the Year category. Chef Ansony Salmon won a Bronze Medal in the Pastry Chef of the Year category.

Chef Macgarvey Thompson won a Bronze Medal in the Best Seafood Category. Chef Imran Ashton won a Bronze Medal in the Best Ice Sculpting category.

A beaming Dr. Birney Harrigan, Chairman of the BVI Chamber of Commerce and Hotel Association (BVICCHA) thanked Ocean Conversion for their support and said “with the continued support of our sponsors the very successful National Culinary Team will bring many benefits to the BVI, not the least of which is to establish the BVI as a premier culinary destination of choice in the Caribbean but also ensuring a great future for the culinary arts in the Territory.”
