FEBRUARY 29—Darrel Redhead’s second half hat trick wasn’t enough to carry Virgin Gorda’s visiting Sugar Boyz past One Love, as they fell 4-3 at the A. O. Shirley Recreation Grounds, in BVI Football Association National League play.
One Love used Chevon Williams’ blast 18 minutes in for a 1-0 edge then padded the lead by the half to 2-0, on David Grant’s score in the 31st. The Sugar Boyz could not capitalize on their chances in the physical game and fell behind 0-3 six minutes into the second half after Colin Green added to his season’s tally.
It was then Redhead finally broke the defense in the 57th to pull the Sugar Boyz within 3-1. A minute late, Richard Morgan put One Love three goals ahead.
Redhead put One Love’s defense to the test, beating it twice in a three minutes span (72,75) to complete his hat trick, but other chances for a victory or tie were blown.
In a game of two halves, visiting Lucian Stars scored when it mattered most to beat the Panthers, 4-3, by controlling the second half, after the Panthers raced to a 3-0 lead at recess, with scores in a 15 minutes span.
Craig Roberts gave the Panthers the advantage in the 25th minute, before Stenneth Williams rounded out their scoring in the 30th and 40th minute of play.
Lucian Stars’ Leslie Shepherd cut the deficit a minute into the second half, with Oliver Charles catching the Panthers’ sleeping defense sleeping with the first of his two goals three minutes later Jonnan Henry, (61) tied the game at 3-3 before Charles (75) completed Lucian Stars’ four unanswered goals run and the victory.
Dion “Ragga” Clark had a hat trick in leading Old Madrid past Haitian Starz, 5-0, for the second victory of the season. Clarke (7,51,89) was sandwiched between scores by Sheldon Harry (60) and Gregg Grant (88).
League leaders Islanders knocked the Wolues back into a second place tie with the Sugar Boyz, following a 4-1 triumph. Noel Isaac, (46), Henroy Mitchell, (48) Nano Ottley (63) and Fitzroy Daley (83), responded to the Wolues’ Matt Moss’ score in the 44th minute, with four unanswered goals.
