O'Neal: "Stop saying that"

BVI News Staff - Friday, April 27th, 2012 at 10:39 AM

Opposition Leader Ralph O'Neal

Opposition Leader and representative for the Ninth District Ralph O’Neal is calling on Premier Dr. D. Orlando Smith and Minister for the Overseas Territories Henry Bellingham to produce the facts regarding statements about the previous government’s financial management.

During the signing of the Protocol on Effective Financial Management with Premier Smith in the BVI recently, Bellingham said when the current government took power the country’s finances had been “badly stretched”. And prior to Bellingham’s comments, the premier said the government mismanaged the finances of the territory when it was in power.

However, O’Neal said Bellingham and the premier  need to stop saying this and produce the facts.

“I do not agree with that at all,” O’Neal said.

He added: “As I told one fellow who asked me about that, I told him to ask Mr. Bellingham to give you the facts. You could look through the various expenditures and see where every effort was made to get value for money, for example, we had some very urgent expenditure to get assistance for the police force  – eight men from the United Kingdom.

“I believe that some are still here helping us to keep law and order and security, which was needed because some elements appeared to be getting out of hand, and we had to be careful that investors, tourists and the people of these islands wanted to be assured that security and law and order is there. If it is said that monies spent on things like that was bad financial management then what would have happened if we did not do it, would have been worse, and so I don’t know why they keep saying that.”

The ex Premier is either Senile or he is a good Liar/Actor let us use Green Land field as an example, this issue was all over the campaign and even before campaigning begun yet Mr.Oneal only found about about the problem when it was raised by Hon Marlon Penn, if we have any level of common sense this should tell us something about the man in question!

I would agree that at this stage, RTO appears unable to function as a representative.

I would not go so far as to call him a liar. But I will say that he was (imho), the worst chief this territory ever had.

Do you who was in charge of the Greenland project? The same one who sent the commissioner of customs on leave without the current Premier”s knowledge. Go figure.

Maybe Mr O’Neal should provide the facts to refute their claim.

oldie is great–very famous for saying ‘no wrong doing’ he can never do wrong. nepotism is his main weakness. then unashamed -he will do any thing for his trusted henchmen. politician he is never could grow up to be statesman. never. petty ? to the core. sad we had him at the helm for so long. if least bit of decency left in him, he should resign and done with it. but ego is a hard thing………..you can’t live without it and moderating one’s ego is the main problem. its in situations like this people begin to pray[he is a great believer in prayer and invoking god forever to hoodwink people] for his demise which will be a blessing to these islands. he lead most corrupt gov’ts in these virgin islands. and worse is he taught the fatso and the mustachie the same things or vice versa?

I do not believe that I am understanding you correctly when you write that -” its (sic) in situations like this people begin to pray ( ) for his demise which will be a blessing to these islands.”
I am shocked that someone could pen such evil thoughts. Whether you like someone or not, I think that is very cruel. I hope that I misunderstood.

Welcome to the “New BVI.” An evil-minded, ignorant, loud, semi-literate and bombastic bunch of selfish, self-centred youngsters of whom I am sure their parents AND their elected representatives are deeply ashamed.

I am only middle-aged but I fear I have already lived too long. I never would have wished to live to see BVIslanders come like these ones here.

Have you people forgotten who you are? Where is your home-training, your “brought-upsy?” Did your parents inadvertantly spoil your into such hateful human beings?

SMH in disgust at what become of my country and culture, once the finest in the Caribbean. That is what’s wrong in the BVI, more than corruption, more than recession or poor planning.

Remember that as things continue to go downhill. You have lost your greatest asset: yourselves, you the people and in so doing you have brought all your misfortune upon yourselves.

The people of the 9th District needs a petition sign and deliver to the Governor
demanding proper representation for the people, since Mr. O’neal doesnt see it fit.

The proof that Mr. Billingham and the people of the BVI Have is your financial reports that you didnt do and thats the fact.

The same habit was allowed at the Tourist Board which you head.

Do you realy wish to continue on this path?
How dare you? You appears as if you cant get grip of we are no longer still foolish.

Nothing that Ralph say right now is relevant because the country has long gone left him and not even in a wheel chair he can catch up with Rasta pushing him because no one is not there to support him with his bad deeds anymore so my advice to him is to continue to relax at his home and call a bi election for proper representation for the 9th district.

Ralph is a fine one. Ok, Hon. Oneal, let me be respectful!!!

If Hon. Oneal and his administration had produced the Auditor General reports of 2008, 2009 and 2010 then we won’t be having this argument. This is typical bush politics, talk foolishness and hope it sticks to enough non-thinking brains. He will turn this into a black vs white, local vs UK argument.

The fact is Mr Oneal, this man doesn’t have to show us any facts, we have the facts and there are public documents available showing this. One question, why is it that so many contractors, 90% of whom supported the VIP, are owed almost $20mil for work done? Mr Oneal, when CDB approved the $16mil for works but monies couldn’t be accessed because of borrowing guidelines breach, why didn’t you produce financials confirming differently?

You were Premier, you were approved for funds but denied access and you didn’t say anything to the people Mr Oneal. You said nothing! Now you are here trying to castigate the man for speaking the facts. I think you need to retire sir, you need to pass the torch. You are making yourself and we as a country look bad.

Just like how this man held a press conference, you should’ve done the same with facts, not blurt out hot air embarrassing yourself and the entire country. this is ridiculous man. You show us the proof or just be quiet.

Real Talk, you need to stop making bad smells on these boards. You are an idiot and an ignorant one at that. How do you know who support the VIP? Aren’t the ballots private and confidential? You don’t know who support who so stop coming on here embarrassing yourself.

The election is long over. Stop the campaigning and get on with it.

Your whole rant, like every rant of yours is nothing but foul name-calling and unfounded, bombastic accusations.

You are probably the biggest detraction from the NDP party. You are not man enough or fit to be supporting or quoting the Honourable Dr. Smith OR the Honourable R.T. O’Neal, OBE.

Honourable is something you know nothing about.

Sorry, you are wrong. My taxes and yours taxes are being used to fund them in full. Notwithstanding this, I would not get the bowels over this as our locals need to step up to the plate and be counted. The fact of the matter is, Mr. O’Neal choose to ignore the red lights and continue to spend as though the Treasury had access to a printing press.
What I am concerned about is the fact that he does not recognise or remember why he was unable to access the 15.7 million which he negotiated with the CDB. I am hoping against hope that one of his trusted friends would step forward and politely ask him to step down before further damage is done.
