Opinion: Regarding the first same-sex marriages in New York

In recent decades, the Catholic Church has been a prophetic voice warning that no-fault divorce, contraception, cohabitation and promiscuity would lead to a cheapening of the marriage bond and harm our kids.
Today, half of all marriages end in divorce and those who suffer the most from these break-up are children.
Same sex marriage is the latest dilution of the authentic understanding of marriage.
The next step will be another redefinition to justify multiple partners and infidelity.
At special risk now is freedom of religion. Believers have already been be harassed, threatened, and hauled into court for their conviction that marriage is between one man, one woman.
In Canada and Europe, for example, Christians have lost their jobs, been fined and dragged through lengthy “human rights” hearings, simply for stating traditional Christian teaching on homosexuality.
Wherever homosexual marriage has been accepted the real forces of intolerance have been unmasked by those defending traditional marriage being consistently depicted as right-wing bigots and bullies.
Ultimately, the problem is not homophobia but theophobia –– a hatred by some of God, faith, religion, and the Church.
The public affirmation of this prejudice is the hallmark of ideological totalitarianism.
