OPINION: The death of Osama bin Laden

The U.S. has offered no evidence whatsoever to show that Osama Bin Laden made even the slightest movement to resist the Navy Seal attack. No matter what one thinks of the Al Qaeda leader, this was a cold blooded American plot sanctioned by President Obama to assassination Bin Laden and secretly remove and bury his body at sea.
This is not justice or democracy in action but the stuff made from movies.
In the classic film “Apocalypse Now”, the character Willard, played by Martin Sheen, is also given a military “mission to proceed up the Nung river in a Navy patrol boat. Pick up colonel Kurtz’ path at Nu Mung Ba, follow it, learn what you can along the way. When you find colonel infiltrate his team by whatever means available and terminate the colonel’s command…Terminate with extreme prejudice.”
While the U.S. government plays in “real time” with the facts of “operation bin Laden” the movie picks up on the real moral: Kurtz says to Willard “and they call me an assassin. What do you call it when the assassins accuse the assassin? They lie. They lie and we have to be merciful…. those nabobs.”
In the end, violence begets only violence.

P.S as soon as this lady Bhutto (in the second link) made this comment she was executed with a shot to the head. No terroist has ever had the shot of a marksman. Only military or cia trains for that type of assassination. And OSAMA was CIA trained and that is fact!

because there is soooo much that is hidden. Look at the facts, the size of the hole in the WTC and the span of the wings on the jets that supposedly went through the hole about 40ft smaller that wings. Let us continue to pray because no wilful deed will go unpunished.
There is good reason to feel a comfort that Osama has been killed. After all I for one would not like to experience his Wahhabi vision for society, nor the cruelty of force he used to bring it about.
I do feel however a reluctance to rejoice. It is appropriate to consider the cost of this victory. That is the many tens of thousands of dead innocent civilians, as well as Americas contravening of International Law.
As a result this victory becomes pyrrhic. The United States Government claims to have placated the bereaving families, innocent victims of the several al-Qaeda attacks. Yet in its wake it leaves tens of thousands of bereaving families, many who will now seek to placate their own bereaving.
More disturbing is the weakening of International Law. In reaching for victory the United State has had to openly flout International Law. These laws are fundamental to regulating State behaviour in order to maintain a sort of stability. Use of extraordinary rendition, prison camps outside of Red Cross jurisdiction, lack of judicial process, dubious legal standing for military action, all contribute to a condition where anything goes for anyone. Thus American actions has cost the world in the small amount of progress towards a functioning international community.
Perhaps worst of all for America is that this has raised global awareness of a certain type of American foreign Policy which contradicts the ‘Freedom’ and ‘Justice’ that are the hallmarks of the United States.

Why did he not try that attack on Israel? If he had succeeded (big IF) he likely would have been dead within a week of his press statement.

I agree with Ray. A lot of these posts are here by persons who are not Virgin Islanders. They are here to spread what is being said in their circles. Do you see why we have to start banning together for the future of our country. Do you see why our leaders need to be people who are hearing from God because if they are hearing from God, they would know that there are haters of democracy among us and they are only among us to reap US dollar to further their cause. The U.S. Claims that “justice” has been done. I would have a hard time calling his killing “justice” ~ I prefer to think of it as an extermination. A righteous extermination. But if we must use the word “justice”, his extermination certainly qualifies as POETIC JUSTICE!
Bin Laden lived by the sword (in every sense of the phrase) and now he has FINALLY died by the swordfollowing a no holds barred, ten year manhunt. He received a fitting end in my opinion. At least the U.S. Seal team were selective in who they killed and made sure to get most others out of the building safely and without injury. Bin Laden would have just killed everyone and anyone within a 4 block radius ~ if the shoe had been on the other foot.
I’m not buying what you’re selling Mr. Kokoski. Your misplaced concern in regards to democracy and fair play is almost laughable when it comes to someone as evil as Bin Laden. The job is done, it’s over ~ and after 10 long years, thousands of families FINALLY have some closure. The monster responsible for murdering their loved ones is dead and gone. It’s about time!

I’m pro democracy but it is unacceptable for those responsible for genocide to live their lives in full. Besides the alternative would be the Death Penalty. Seals are quick, cost effective and without palaver.
