Monday, July 26 – Police are following several leads into a robbery which took place this morning at First Bank and are appealing for witnesses to come forward with information.
Investigations indicate that three armed masked men entered the bank just after 10:30am, ordered all persons inside to get on the floor and demanded money from the tellers. Two of the men then jumped behind the counter and helped themselves to the cash. The perpetrators then fled the scene with cash in a grey Suzuki rental SUV licence plate number RT1540.
The amount of cash taken in the robbery is still unknown.
One of the perpetrators is described as approximately six feet in height while the other two are between 5’5″ and 5’6″.
Police have since located the vehicle used by the perpetrators abandoned near Harrigan’s Estate. Forensic Officers have taken the vehicle into custody.
Police are asking persons who have seen a vehicle fitting this description prior to or after the robbery to contact Commissioner Reynell Frazer at 468-9333 or to utilize the Police website at www.rvipolice.com under Help solve a crime.
Persons can also provide information to Crimestoppers which has an anonymous, confidential hotline number 800-8477 or 800-TIPS. Crimestoppers provides a completely independent crime reporting system and an alternative way for the public to report crime. A call made to Crimestoppers is free and untraceable.

Time to change BVI gun laws. Make it legal for anyone who wants to be able to carry/own a gun, do so. An armed society is a civil society! The bad guys will always be armed, won’t they?
@ Wellsa
Reading your comment you sound like a real *** that has NO sort of sense. Did you read your comment b4 you post it? My understanding to this is, you know exactly who committed the crime and you are happy. You are even encouraging them to spend it wisely. You need to look up the word COMMON SENSE and see if you have any, cause trust me you don’t. Furthermore, that should not be anything to be happy about, because if that was your business/bank you would of wanted someone to come forward to assist you. Keeping your mouth shut doesn’t help the situation. Too many of time we cry/crying that the people of the BVI needs to do better, what are you doing to help this situation. Think about it. I hope you are not from here nor living here. You don’t deserve to be here in the first place with your mentallity.
What you need to do is just keep your stupid comments to yourself if you don’t have anything POSITIVE to say.
@WELLSA: Comments like yours should never be posted on any blogs. It just shows how stupid and unintelligent you are. I have so much to say to you, but won’t even waste any more time
IS a shame what happened but government has no control over the island and surely not the respect of the people, especially when politicians steal and lie, police talk ur business when u make a report and major crimes go unsolved. Because of this we have grown to be selfish And strayed from our tolian roots! Someone said it earlier, we only seem to be interested in who hannin who and who breed for who and nonsense like that. Government, take back our island from crimnals! I used to brag bout the bvi but now it’s a mere “it’s kool”! Going to prison is lime vacation, I seein man goin jail and comng out fat like rass! We need to get stiffer in the bvi as far as rules and penalties. Be proactive not reactive!
@WELLSA: Police in every community in every corner of the world NEED the help of witnesses to solve crimes. It is the tips and testimony of the witnesses that lead the police in their investigations. If there are no roads to follow then the crime will not be solved. So by choosing to remain quiet you are arming the criminals with the weapon to commit their crime. You have turned your back and allowed these guys to walk right into that bank and take whatever they want. The BVI now has the crime hotline to call where you can remain anonymous, There are no excuses anymore to be tight lipped and not help the BVI be a safer place for everyone to live!
Let me corret my statement as i first typed it from my cell phone. I meant to say that it does not give persons the right to steal. and we have now identified the problem. I apologise for my error in grammer.
We have not identify that we have a problem.
What are the measures that we will put in place to address this problem.
It is clear that the police department is either short staff or more concentration should be given to profiling persons instead of harrassing persons for tint and seat belts. I appreciate that the police do their job, but priority should be give to items that require such.
The problem the BVI is experiencing is that certain cops (not all) have mistreated persons and have come off wrong in the eye of the public. While they didnt see what their actions caused, it is now the payment for their behavior will be reflected.
How come we can not get the community to talk. That is the question that we all need to be asking ourself. While i understand that things hard, it does give persons the right to rob and steal. What if one of our family members got shot or injured as a result of this crime; those persons would be furious. Thank God know one was hurt, but when banks can be robbed in high day light, then what will occur when the sun set.
Some of the comments posted sound a litlle bit ignorant, talkin about you are not goin to help, now suppose it was ur parent or even your child in the bank and the result was completely opposite of what it was, no one was hurt but that dnt mean that if u kno somethin u goin keep your mouth close thats unless u gettin a cut of the loot….hmm, i swear sometimes i have to question the smarts on this island.
@jokers: Simple, but i guess it makes sense….
Police don’t have the men on remand, the Court is what have them on remand.
I would never get involved, what my eyes my mouth would not talk…..people need to understand there life worth more than a $$$$ sign…
Let the cops do there work, not crap going on and when some have to heat up the island them want us as human being to help…………
I aint helping an i keeping far as of right now, to u guys spend it wisely because in the end somebody going to leak out them mouth. It was well plan and i appauld u guys for giving BVI a wake up call that security men and women need to be arm, but in the end who say u can draw the gun when on is pointed to head…
HE WAY OF THE GUN IS THE WAY TO POWER………….JOKER IS RIGHT! BADMAN HAVE THE POWER!
the old times what u talking about will never happen , y because we already started wrong so we can never go
iight , the foundationan is also messing up & we are doing is added on & trying to cover up
and not even that we good at
Look at the leaders of the country and u see why we cant good iight .. We dont like 2 listen to each & that ur problem ever like miss hap , the first out of there mouths are them young children!
ur sweet island is going down and i am sorry to say it but its true we only focus on ur self , money , who cheating with who & who
SO IF THE POLICE HAVE THE SUPPOSE 2 BE BANK ROBBERS ON REMAND FOR ATLEAST 3YEARS NOW GOIN NO WHERE WITH THE CASE WHO ARE THESE GUYS THAT PULLED OFF THAT MOVIE SCENE 2DAY, MONEY TIGHT IN THE COUNTRY NOW EVERYBODY IS BAWLING AND ONLY GOD KNOWS WHAT A MAN WILL DO 2 SURVIVE
This act should be condemned by the society in gemeral. If it is allowed to floueish without condenmnation, then we will loose the peace and tranquality of the territory. All residents and visitors of these islands should stand up and pledge their unswerving support to the lawmen and try to bring the perpetrators justice…..
who insures your money? I dont think so.
I was outside First Bank at 10.30am, it was total gridlock. How the hell could they make a getaway?
@yup:
As far as you know! Just goes to show how far behind time you are. Maybe one of these days you will realize your short commings.
Just like your pc or lap top can be access by
@yup: Whether the call is traceable or not is irrelevant…the focus here is in taking back the community from the criminal eliment before it gets worse. Bring back the old time days when we could walk the streets in peace at any hour and more so peacefully in daylight hours.
I worked in the banking business for approximately 10 years in the US before moving back. I was in charge of a teller line ao i know how the bank i used to work at was set up. I am curious what kind of security measures these banks have. I mean if someone comes in demanding money, isn’t there a panic button that once it is pushed is linked directly to the police station. If there isn’t then this a lack of poor security on the bank’s part /this is an american bank. Having security cameras is all well and good but if the perpertrators are wearing ski masks, well then there goes another unsolved crime. This is just my two cents
RALF T ONEAL BADMAN HAVE GUN POLIECE DONT AND SECURITY FOR BANK DONT GUESS WHO IS IN CONTROL BADMAN—–
you hear about these crimes in the Mainland, not on our little free and relaxed island. I dont have anywhere to relax anymore. I get tired of the Mainland and I head to St. Thomas or BVI, now where oh where oh where can I go, nowhere what is going on.?
@Here we go again: your money is insured when in the bank – thats not the concern. The concern is that these scumbags stooped so low to rob a bank in these once peaceful islands, and likely someone knows who they are but isnt going to talk.
These people who go round robing other people and also homes and banks are mostly lazy lay back wacth you work hard for what you have and then come take what you got dirty minded fool’s , these man are out here trying to live a TV life with riches and a bad man mentality wich then continues in the action’s of the yought’s that would look up to them then next thing you know the whole of society go’s bad what these man don’t understand is the risk in doing this could cause them and inocent people their lives the fools then would take the same money and spend it foolishly or try to open a buisness that would not last to long because they did not earn that money honestly in the end the Lord say Man must not steal theive’s , murderer’s,lier’s ext shall not enter his Kingdom and then the FIRE…. melt the wicked…..
where else can you rob a bank and get away with it.. even if they find them the courts will give them a light stay in the prison and off they go free to enjoy the fruits of their crime..
look at the track record for crimes and prision time..
do the crime, enjoy the time and get out with a heros welcome..
only in the BVI
I always believe that the banks are poorly designed. First of all customer service should be in a seperate area within the building. The area where the tellers are should be in a separate area within the main building with just an open lobby for the customers with the tellers behind fortified bullet proof glass that encases them for their protection. There should be slots where money can be passed from the teller to the customer. There should be one or two supervisors with the tellers so that when checks etc needs signature someone qualified is there to do this task. At no time should anyone be able to jump a counter to access the tellers or the money. Wake up Bank Managers secure your workers and the money that people work hard to put in your banks.
@yup: There we going being negative again. Criminals love the mindset of these people.
What is it going to take for businesses and the police to understand that the security detail now employed by business in the BVI is not adequate. The criminals know that these men and women do not carry weapons and they also know that playing hero is not in their job description. As a matter of fact the companies that offer the security detail instruct their employees not to play hero.
The area in which the banks and the money carriers (western union et al) are located is a relatively small area. Let’s begin by placing ARMED POLICE MEN (by that I mean with Machine Gun) in this area.
I forever remember the BVI being a country in which people aspire to grow with their family – that is changing. Let’s do all that is lawfully within our power to keep the BVI the PARADISE that it still is.
nothing such as an untraceable call
