Police are reporting that one man is in stable condition at Peebles Hospital after sustaining bullet wounds to both legs.

The victim stated that he was in the vicinity of Mickey’s Bar in Scatliffe Alley around 11:00pm when he was approached by an unidentified jeep.

A man with a shirt tied around his face exited the passenger door, demanded money and then discharged several rounds of ammunition hitting the victim twice.

The victim was then robbed of money, jewellery and a cellular phone.

Investigations are continuing in this matter.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force is again encouraging members of the public who know of individuals in possession of guns to report this information confidentially to the Intelligence Unit at 468-9339.

Persons who provide this information will greatly assist the officers now dedicated to the task of removing these weapons from the Territory.

Likewise, Police are encouraging persons who may have heard or seen anything suspicious in the area of Scatliffe Alley after 11pm on Wednesday night to contact the Criminal Investigation Unit at 494-3822.

Persons can also give information anonymously by calling the anonymous Crimestoppers hotline number 800-TIPS (8477) or give information via the police website at www.rvipolice.com under the heading “Help Us Solve a Crime”.

    Unfortunately I don’t think we see the worse of it yet. We have a lot of deportees to the Caribbean in the last year alone. Immigration has to step it up, border patrol has to step it up. Remember BVI is the closest thing to US without being US in the Caribbean, guess where the people that crave the US$ but can’t go back to the US trying to get into. Born here, raised here, live here…..sick and tired of these headlines….I want back my old BVI…PEACEFUL

    I am one of the people who has been traveling to Tortola for 14 years. When I first went it was a peaceful and friendly island. Unfortunatly I will not be going again. The Caribbean Islands all round are now the same—-robbers …murders and full of drugs. I have now had two friends murdered on the Islands. WILL NOT BE GOING BACK AND NOR WILL MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY. The Governor should be doing something serious about the crime. The Police are also running scared.

      @mmario, yes the island is filled with miscreant morons with no parental supervision. The people of Tortola should be ashamed of their children – they are pigs.

    It is sooooooooooooooo easy to put a stop to all the nonsense thats taking plance in the BVI right now. As easy as

    given a 20 years sentence to anyone found with a fire arm

    Arming police officers

    Re stablising the death penalty

    but any time anyone propose one of thos things YOU, the same people complaining now are the first to desagree

    I wonder why the robber had to shoot the fellow he stole from. Was it really necessary to fire the weapon? I pray to God that the Courts start giving out hefty fines to those with guns. Using guns should be an automatic 15 year sentence on top of what the other charge is.

    I know a young man who was recently caught with a gun and drugs and who is out on bail telling everyone the judge is on his side and how he is not going to get any jail time. He carries his weapon and he threatens peoples lives. It’s guys like him that need to be locked up for at least 5 years just for possession of a weapon. I pray the Courts see the err of thier lenient ways and start giving out punishment that fits the crime.

      @No love!, Hefty Fines are no good. An obligatorily mandated 5 years in jail for possession with another mandatory 5 years for the use of a weapon during a crime and ANOTHER 5 years for discharging a weapon. If this becomes the law, then thiefs will get the message that committing armed robbery for a few dollars will get you at least 10 years in jail, no matter how good the lawyer you hire, or wether you guilty or not – You had a Gun, 5 years – That gun was present during a crime, that gets you another 5 years as a guest of her majesty at Balsam’s Ghut. It does not matter if you did the robbery or were just an accomplice, or even a by-stander. Your Gun – You go to Jail

    Well, I’m glad they didn’t kill him and I hope they catch whoever did it.

    HOWEVER, my understanding is that this dude was a cool person, used to be quiet and just to himself!
    All of a sudden he turned into a GANGSTA! He’s in the Alley hustling with his screwface and he’s like “YEA, I”M THE MAN!”
    He always roamed the street as if he was untouchable, mouthing off people etc. I hope that burning metal wise him up and he go look a real job when he recovers.
    I don’t know what convince these young fools that they gonna be on the streets, acting bad and stuff like this will not happen.
    Count your blessings sir and make good use of your second chance!!!

    tortola is a warzone now. shootings and robberies everyday. For such a small island, this is terrible, terrible press. Obviously the children are running wild.

      @Matlock,
      and police presence. We all know that ” the ghetto” is an area with a reputation so why isn’t it on a full time beat along with other areas that are hangouts and the sites of repeated crime. We citizens know where these are so the police also know. I am glad the police have stepped up but we need more active, on site beat police….and don’t forget, cameras are only as good as the person monitoring it..and these punks know how to evade their usefulness.

        @criminals,

        While more Police presence would be a step; I fear that the GOV’, COP and DCOP’S stance are clear on arming more officers are clear as day. So it looks like it’s going to be the usual Bla, Bla, Bla. The Gov’ has no new amendments to table on gun crime, The COP and DCOP keep spinning lies only to cover thir ineffectiveness n tackling the escalating crime rate. However the delightful speech has not translated any meaningful change in the interest of the PUBLIC. But they’re gonna continue blowing smoke because the people will only bla, bla, bla. By the way the GOV’ hv the power to make that change by redesigning the area and close some of the places in that so call ghetto if they wish. I will not support Police having to go in that area for it may cause a backlash. I do not hope to a warzone. We all know that the GOV will not sanction any aggressive clamp down. So it will be the usual Bla, bla, bla.
