Premier O'Neal

Friday, September 10 – Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Ralph T. O‟Neal OBE, in a letter to Acting Prime Minister Honourable Freundel Stuart, has extended condolences to the Government and people of Barbados, and to the relatives of the fire victims in the recent arson robbery attack, which claimed six lives.

Writing on behalf of the Territory‟s Government and people the Premier stated: “It was with shock and sadness our community learnt about the incident. This was such a heinous crime and I ask that you convey our condolences to the relatives of the fire victims during this time of tremendous grief and loss.”

Honourable O‟Neal stated that he was heartened to learn of the „pause and pray‟ called for by Prime Minister David Thompson in which residents were asked to halt all talking and movement of pedestrian and vehicular traffic for three minutes at 12 noon today for the remembrance of the fire victims.

The Premier wrote: “I know that in such circumstances the healing process takes time; however, I hope the „pause and pray‟ moment will not only be a time of reflection but a time when Barbadians will commit to a sense of community, unity and fairness to help bring the perpetrators to justice.”

Premier O‟Neal concluded the letter, stating, “Rest assured that we will continue to keep the relatives, the Government and people of Barbados in our prayers.”

The fire occurred last week Friday at Barbados‟ Campus Trendz Boutique in Bridgetown. Authorities have reported that the victims are three store employees and three customers.
