Christopher

Retired permanent secretary within the Ministry of Labor and Natural Resources Dr. Sebulita Christopher passed away in a Florida hospital on June 1, 2010, according to reports reaching BVI News.

Sources say she died from a stroke.

“Our condolences go out to her family,” said Director of Human Resources David Archer. “Ms. Christopher’s contributions to the public service have been extremely vital.”

Author of ‘Take It To Heart: On the road with heart disease – the life changing journey’ Dr. Christopher has been an advocate for heart disease. On September 13, 2008 she shared her story of her heart attack with an intimate audience to celebrate Caribbean Wellness Day in the BVI at the Admin Building.

On the book’s website Dr. Christopher is quoted as saying, “’Take It to Heart’ tells a personal story of my life changing experience of having a heart attack. This diagnosis of this occurrence was made only eight days later. I truly believe that my survival is indicative of a God-given mission for me to warn women of the seriousness of heart disease and to encourage them to seek its prevention in their lives. My book also points to the under diagnosis of heart disease in women, and the resulting scarcity of available health treatment. Though the risk factors for heart disease are similar for both men and women the differences in symptoms experienced are tremendous. Carefully researched, my book is packed with information vital to the health and heart of woman.”

Dr. Christopher also served as a public administrator, public school educator and education management consultant in the territory for several years.

Sebulita Christopher, Mrs. C as I affectionately called her, was indeed a wonderful lady, a lady whom I admired and had much love and respect for. I am pleased to have had the privilege of working closely with her as her personal secretary prior to her retirement from Government. My condolence goes out to her children who I know will miss her immensely, especially that hearty laugh of hers. Her memory will live on.
